Anders Westlund

I've been working in the travel and hospitality industry almost my whole life. Born in Bodø, and growing up both in the north of Norway as well as living most of my life in the south, I have come to love all that Norway has to offer. i love to travel and discover new places, and new cultures.

How did you get involved in travel?

"I've always had an interest in traveling since I was a kid. I got into the hospitality industry at a young age and ended up going to a Swiss Hotel Management school to get my degree in hospitality/tourism. After that I've worked in hotels both in Norway as well as abroad. After getting my advanced diver certificate and private pilot license, I have found new ways to discover new places cultures, and people."

Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.

"Me and my wife driving around Italy one summer. We had no plans for what or where we wanted to go, we just drove around, and when we didn't want to travel anymore, we found a campsite and spent 1-2 nights before driving to new places. Ended up with one of our most fun vacations."

My trip was to Norway from the US. I was completely overwhelmed with work when I decided to try out Kim Kim as a worry free option to book my travel. When I received my itinerary and paid, I was still overwhelmed and basically just accepted all the pieces. It was not exactly what I had in mind when I mentioned I was pretty active and enjoyed outdoor activities and animals, but it was an intriguing itinerary so I went with it. As I got closer I realized some of the activities were impossible to get to due to flight timing. I was able to cancel one activity. I also looked up the rooms they booked me. Given how much I paid, I assumed I would be in great rooms. They were closets. I paid more to get some of them upgraded. As the days got closer I realized all the bookings were pretty standard activities that everyone does. So I started collecting the prices and the hotel room prices. I paid about twice what the cost of the activities and hotels would have been. And there was no "local flair" in anything.
I did enjoy the activities and the company was responsive as weather cancelled several activities and I was able to get some refunds. I realized 4 days in advance that no train was early enough to get me to the airport from my booked hotel and asked about canceling the room. I was told by the local company this should be fine and re-booked in a hotel closer to the airport, but when I asked about a refund I was advised that it was too short notice. So, there was some disconnect either within the local company or between them and Kimkim.
I would overall not recommend Kimkim unless you are okay with paying way above standard travel agent fees (typically 10-15%). The activities booked were all enjoyable, but I really could have booked it all myself and would not have had any trouble getting any of them even after I arrived.

Hi Tammy.
Thank you for taking the time to share your honest and detailed feedback. I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed the activities during your trip and that our team was responsive in helping with weather-related cancellations and refunds. However, I’m truly sorry to hear that the overall experience did not meet your expectations, and I appreciate you sharing your concerns so we can improve.

When it comes to your itinerary, I regret that it didn’t fully reflect your preferences for active, outdoor, and animal-focused experiences. Our goal is always to provide customized trips tailored to each traveler’s interests, and I’m sorry that wasn’t reflected here.

While I’m glad you were able to enjoy the activities and that our team provided support along the way, I deeply regret that your experience with us wasn’t the worry-free, personalized trip you were hoping for. Your feedback is invaluable, and I’ll be sharing this with our team to ensure we improve. Thank you again for your candor, and I hope we can earn back your trust in the future.

Warm regards,

Anders

The dog sledding in Alta was a highlight!!! I would love to go back and actually stay there. The outings for the northern lights were a bust until Tromso mini van trip. That is a personal preference. There were problems with the trip. Sometimes it took over 24 hours to get a response from anyone at KimKim. Also, several different people so there was no continuity. In Tromso we were given the wrong meeting place on the printed schedule which made us miss a half a day of our vacation and got up extra early. That was really sloppy. I would like to be reimbursed for this expense since we lost a half day and had to be rescheduled to another company. (Not as good as the Alta experience.)

That said, I sincerely apologize for the issues you encountered. A delayed response time and the lack of continuity with our team should never have been part of your experience, and I appreciate you bringing this to our attention. I’m also very sorry for the mistake with the meeting point in Tromsø that disrupted your plans. I completely understand how frustrating it must have been to lose part of your day.

Thank you again for sharing both the highlights and the challenges—it’s feedback like yours that helps us improve. I hope we’ll have the chance to create a seamless and even more unforgettable trip for you in the future!

They were not informing us of cancelations in Tromso and they were not helpful in plannng The Blue Lagoon and didn't advise us of darkness. Hotels were excellent that bthey booked for us. The 24 hour emergency line person in Tromso was completely useless and seemed annoyed when we called.
