Iván Viteri

"I was born in Cuenca, Ecuador. Since little, I was surrounded by the mountains of the Ecuadorian highlands. It was natural for me to climb trees and fall asleep in their branches or among the grassy areas of the forests, to the sound of river currents. Later, I discovered other landscapes in the coastal region and climatic zones that are unique for relaxation and enjoyment. Gradually, I started traveling around my country realizing that Ecuador possesses the highest biodiversity in the world per square mile, meaning you can count more species of flora and fauna than any other place in the planet! Afterwards I started crossing borders to the north in Colombia and to the south in Peru. Later on, I traveled to explore more of the Americas: Seattle, Punta Cana (DR), and Buenos Aires. Because I always had the desire to learn more about European culture, I took German classes and finally had the opportunity to travel to a German-speaking country, Austria, and once there, I also got to visit Slovenia and Italy.

Having had the opportunity to travel and experience many cultures, I feel a debt to people. I want to showcase the best of my country by listening to them and guiding them on their plans to visit Ecuador, making their stay and travels the best possible on their journey."

What places and activities do you specialize in?

"I specialize in the entirety of continental Ecuador and the Galápagos Islands region, with a specific focus on destinations that extend beyond conventional itineraries. This encompasses the exploration of the beaches and culinary offerings of Guayaquil and Manabí, along with the appreciation of the cities of Riobamba, Loja and Cuenca, recognized as a distinguished World Heritage site for its profound impact on art and culture. Furthermore, I have engaged in research pertaining to the cloud and rainforest habitats within Sangay National Park. Additionally, my explorations have led me to the towns of Lorocachi, Taisha, Santiago, and Montalvo, where I have delved into the distinctive wildlife, placing special emphasis on the observation of mammals and birds. We want to make sure that our clients would receive a tailor-made service so they can meet their expectations once in Ecuador! "

How did you get involved in travel?

"
I began to appreciate the beauty of Ecuador during my teenage years. At that time, I never envisioned the vast options that Ecuador offers, especially considering that tourism was not a prominent industry in my country by the end of the 90s. Gradually, as I pursued studies in Ecotourism to become a National Guide of Ecuador, I explored various cities within the country. However, it was a particular journey that left an indelible mark on me – traversing the highlands of Riobamba on a train in the early morning, enduring temperatures close to zero degrees Celsius, witnessing the dynamic changes in landscape, vegetation, and wildlife, and ultimately arriving in the humid and hot city of Guayaquil in the afternoon. Subsequently, I broadened my travel experiences to destinations such as Argentina, Alaska, and Austria. Yet, it is now, with a fresh perspective, that I truly perceive Ecuador in a new light."

Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.

"Alaska. Glacier Bay leaves a profound impression as vast quantities of ice continually cascade into the water. You hear a deep rumble each time ice plunges into the sea, and the ice isn't white or transparent but blue, a result of the immense pressure exerted by the weight on the icebergs visible from the cruise. Kodiak Island amazed me with the lushness of its forests, even the ground beneath those forests is green! The Denali Star train offers a wildlife-watching journey, leading to the modern city of Anchorage, where the influence of indigenous culture still prevails. "
