Krešo Blažević
I'm from Croatia, but this beautiful gem called Iceland, is my second home <3. When traveling, I focus a lot on details, trying not to miss anything that seems interesting and always pushing for more and more different stuff to see and do, but also never miss an opportunity to just stay at one place for some time, trying to soak in everything around me.
In my opinion, the best way to travel is with a car or a camping van - you aren't tied to a specific place or time, and you can just freely and fully enjoy your trip.
Of course, there is always a matter of planning so you can actually have that kind of an experience, but that's why we are here ;).
What places and activities do you specialize in?
"I've been in living in Iceland for 5 year now, first in the western part (Husafell) and than later (and still) in southern part (Vik i Myrdal). So I can say those areas I know pretty well and detailed, but I traveled all around the Iceland too, so it's fair to say that I'm knowledgeable about the whole island.
I love hiking and exploring places that people usually rarely visit, so to me, making self-drive trips and tours feels completely natural."
How did you get involved in travel?
"When I was a kid, didn't travel that much, only few times with my parents and brother when we got financial opportunity to do so. But just those few times made me realize that I want to do this more often, cause it felt so right! And when I got older and finally started having some income for myself, I started saving money just for traveling and didn't stop for almost 13 years now. Visited and explored many countries and places, and planning to keep on going as long as my feet will carry me :) ."
Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.
"Hard to choose one, but maybe Cuban experience was the most unique. Most fond memory from there was when we hiked (friends and me) through one Nature park near Trinidad, and came to a waterfall with a pond, where we stripped to our underpants and jumped into that cold water. We felt so happy and alive...
And then on the last night in Havana, one of my friends and I joined a musician in one bar and played a couple of songs with him, only to go the central square later, and then played a guitar with a street performer while drinking mojitos :).
Regarding Iceland, definitely something that blew my mind, was one of those really strong northern lights in many colors. They start from distance, slowly coming above you, where you think you can touch it, and then just continues on it's path, dancing away... "
