Best of Trogir

Trogir packs a surprising concentration of architectural treasures for a town of its small size. Set within medieval walls on an island off the Central Dalmatian coast, Trogir has landmarks like St Lawrence’s Cathedral, with its grand Romanesque portal, and the former Garagnin-Fanfogna palace, which houses the history-packed exhibits of the Trogir Town Museum. The beaches and seaside promenades make a fine counterpoint to the old quarter’s cobblestones, and you’ll find excellent lodging and dining options in the area. 

Previous kimkim travelers have peeled back the layers of history on guided walking tours. You’ll get a fine overview of Trogir’s complex history, which began when Greek colonists founded the city in the third century BCE. Trogir also makes an excellent base for day trips to the Klis Fortress, which has fabulous views over the island-dotted Adriatic; the citadel was prominently featured in the Game of Thrones series. One of the best ways to experience the area is on the water. On a private boat excursion, you’ll visit the small town of Milna on Brac Island followed by a visit to the Pakleni Islands. Along the way, you’ll stop in quiet bays and coves for swimming and snorkeling, and have lunch at a traditional restaurant.
