Best of Agadir

Agadir is famed for its golden-sand beaches, outstanding seafood and vibrant atmosphere. The pleasant weather year-round draws holiday makers from across Europe and beyond. Although many visitors come for package all-inclusive resorts, there’s much to see in and around the city, from wandering through eucalyptus-filled gardens to browsing for treasures in the sprawling Souk Al Had, one of Morocco’s largest markets.

You can delve into the past on a hike to the ruins of Agadir Oufella, a 16th-century kasbah built to protect Agadir from Portuguese invasions. Like much of the city, it was destroyed by an earthquake in 1960. About an hour’s drive south of town, Souss-Massa National Park protects a landscape of dunes, valleys and coastal forests—key habitats for its ostriches, flamingoes, gazelles and other wildlife. Another good day trip possibility is the Paradise Valley, a scenic gorge of palms, olive groves and inviting natural pools.
