Following up on some of the other commentary on this website, it appears the kimkim price markup is incredibly, outrageously exorbitant. I cannot stress enough how ridiculously expensive this trip was compared to the value received.
I would not in good conscience recommend kimkim to anyone unless they are provided with better price transparency than I was.
The total cost charged by kimkim for "activities/transfers" was $4300 (and the company was even reluctant to provide me with this level of "detail".) As far as I can tell, the activities/transfers included:
1: Car from our Rome hotel to the Rome train station (let's say €50)
2: Train from Rome to Salerno (€102 cost per the electronic ticket)
3: Car from Salerno to Sorrento (assume €500; according people we spoke to in Sorrento, a full day car service (6-8 hours) in that area is €400-500)
4: Capri boat tour (€300 cost per the operator website)
5: Car from Sorrento to Pompeii to Naples (5 hours of driver/car time, let's say €300)
6: Tour of Pompeii (€130-150 per our guide)
7: Train from Naples to Rome (€68 cost per electronic ticket)
8: Car from the Rome train station to our Rome hotel (let's say €50)
This adds up to €1520 in activity/transfer costs compared to the $4300 I was charged. Of course I assume there will be some level of markup (but note there was also an additional $305 "service fee" I was charged). And I may be off in some of these price assumptions - but even with a margin of error, being charged almost 3x the cost of these activities leaves an extremely bad impression of the operation. More power to them for being able to operate with these types of margins but I don't believe it is conducive to generating long-term goodwill and repeat customer engagement.
Hotel Reviews
Great location near the Colosseum; convenient to many of the major tourist sites.
