My only request to Kimkim team is to let people know the breakup of expenses on travel and hotels (not the break-down to individual days) ... so that people can decide if they can go more luxurious in travel or should go down on hotels etc.
That's something policy related that Kimkim must do.

Other than that, you exceeded my expectations.
A big shout out for Liz Karen and Lisbeth again!

We're a family of six with teens and a six-year-old, and Liz helped us pack it all into a 12-day trip to Peru! Ninety percent of the trip was incredible.

First, however, here's the part that sucked: A preventable snafu cost us a lot of $$. When we were too sick to hike, we were misinformed about train ticketing restrictions, which led us to lose $500 on rebooking fees. Also, every one of us got sick. Like, fevers, antibiotics, puking, oxygen, and hospital trips sick. Yes, we drank only bottled water, through filtered water bottles. It happens.

Here's the meh: We needed a little more mental preparation for the rigors of the Amazon section of the trip. It was 98 degrees with 90% humidity and swarms of mosquitos and roaches. Reading that is different than being ready for it. We needed different clothes to be more comfortable. Also, pretty much every single one of our flights was changed after we first booked it. We had to get up at 4 am a few times, which led to some grumpy family members later in the day.

Now, on to the great parts: We loved our first few days in Lima. The food tour in Barranco was a delicious introduction to a country filled with flavorful food. Even our picky eaters tried it all. We didn't give ourselves enough time in the colonial section of downtown Lima. Day two was the sea lion tour, which was a grand adventure. The boat trip was gorgeous. As you approach the island, it does smell bad but you get used to it, and swimming with the cuties for twenty minutes is well worth it. In the Amazon, we saw caiman, otters, wild macaws, parrots, four kinds of monkeys, and a ton of cool trees (rubber, cork). Corto Maltes was a beautiful lodge with hammocks and great food, and we loved cooling off in the pool. We flew to Cusco and then drove on to our favorite place, El Albergue in Ollantaytambo. This "boutique" hotel was paradise, with flowers everywhere and breathtaking views. There was a huge farm and a little school behind it. The place was a short (uphill) walk from the ruins towering above the town, the Plaza Mayor, and the souvenir market. The sacred valley ruins tour was ah-mazing for my history teacher heart and Jose was well-informed about so many different perspectives. We loved the llama trek and weaving demo with indigenous women. Since we were too sick to hike, I wish we had skipped staying in Aguas Calientes. Still, our hotel, Hatun Inti, was minimalist and clean. The Vistadome train ride - with party car! - was a highlight of the trip. Machu Picchu is even more marvelous in person and our guide, Javier, was a huge help in answering all of my questions. He did a great job with the Insta pix for the teens and the pacing for our slow kiddo and those of us feeling the altitude. Another train ride and then a drive to Cusco. The elevation here really buried some of us but we were all incredulous at the beauty of this colonial city. We stayed at Casa San Blas, which was super cute and had the perfect location. Situated on a hill, we could see the red roofs of Cusco below. San Blas is an artists' neighborhood and my artistic teens loved seeing the artists at work. From here, we did a pottery experience, a chocolate experience, went to an animal rescue center, and visited many ruins. I also recommend the Museo del Arte Precolombino and visiting the cathedral and church on the Plaza Mayor.

Although a few things went wrong, the combination of support and individual choice made for the perfect way to plan a family trip. Thank you, Liz, Lizbeth, Domingo, Jose, Javier, and so many others. I would recommend KimKim to other travelers in a heartbeat!

Corto Maltes Amazon Lodge

Corto Maltes was a beautiful lodge with hammocks and great food, and we loved cooling off in the pool. Our guide, Mario, was an expert at spotting animals. We saw caiman, otters, wild macaws, parrots, four kinds of monkeys, and a ton of cool trees (rubber, cork). The boat ride to and from the lodge were beautiful and fresh. The massage at the lodge was well worth it. We were underprepared for the sheer volume of mosquitos and the small armies of roaches. Also, everyone stressed that we needed long sleeves and pants (which we did, for the hikes and such) but no one really mentioned that we needed a TON of extra clothing because everything would get wet and nothing would dry in 90% humidity. We could have been more comfortable if we were better prepared. Our littlest one got super sick here with a fever.

Authenticity & Character
The location, architecture and food make this place pretty amazing. I wish there was more of a cultural aspect as well.
Location
Right on the river with a big property filled with cool plants and animals, and a lookout tower.

We were there over Christmas and there was nothing special about it. Other lodges had cultural celebrations.

We wanted to see historic sites, beautiful views, and experience the local culture and she made it possible! The hotels she selected for us were great, with exceptional service and hospitality. They were knowledgeable about many restaurants (especially vegetarian and vegan!) In Cusco, our local guide Manuel was exceptional - he took us to see some amazing historical sites, salt times, Llama Sanctuary, and to an at home textile production. He made us took us around the city as if we were locals and had great stories about the countries rich history. In Machu Picchu, our guide, Javier, was a joy to hike with. He took us to many great photo-op spots, some of which other guides knew nothing about! He told great stories and taught us much about the history of a wonder of the world. We also visited Lima and were able to explore the city on our own, going to street markets, small homey restaurants, and night time gelato treats! Overall, it was a warm and beautiful country with amazing guides/ locals who made us feel right at home. Already looking forward to our next trip!!

Our local guides were excellent as well - Jime, Melbin, Darwin, Will and took care of everything. We knew this would be an awesome trip but when executing it, it turned out to be even more amazing than expected.
I loved the fact that I could cuatomized the trip /design it exactly as per my wishes, and Kim kim just help me with the logistics arouns it.
Everything was arranged perfectly, from transport to accommodation to time slots etc. 6 of 5 points!
Hotels, specially the Tierra Viva chain hoth in Lima and Ollantaytambo, were very nice, with the only exception of the hotel (hostal really) Amaru in Cusco where the sound from the rooms above us in all nights we stayed there didnt help us sleep much, and the cleaning could have been better too. Also ahead of our stay in the Jungle, in the TreeLodge, we should have been give more factual info that there is no mobile coverage, no cashier nor any emergency shop at all, so for example, if you are a woman and happen to get your mens while there, as it happened to me, you rather were mega prepared ahead having bought even female patches/tampongs with you as there is simply no way to get them in the jungle. Prior to pur trip we had understoodd it was ju gle but as we were staying on a 'resort'/'lodge', we thought there'd at least be a survival shop /pharmacy at the premises.

The guides in Puno, Cusco and thr jungle have been very different styles one vs the other, but each od them had its own charm, a lot of knowledge and have made our trip a real joy. Kuddos to Maycol in Puno, Emilia (Cusi travel) in Cusco and Carlos & Jaimer in the jungle.

An advice for other travellers is to do your research thoroughly of what you'll like to visit and only after that design your trip. Peru has far too many things/places to visit, so one cannot leave it only to the typical 'for tourist' tours if one really wants to cover the most 'corners of Peru' possible in the time one has there.

One other suggestion to Kim Kim/advice to traveller is that the INCA Trail hike, even the short one we did, requires higher than standard good condition. 7h and more than 200 staircases, under rain or heavy sun, and even if with stops to drink/grab an energy bite and a breath, is not a trivial challenge. And I say this having grown up hiking the Pyrenees in my home land Basque Country (North Spain).

To visit Machu Picchu and a piece (the Peruvian) of the Amazon River/jungle was my dream since young ago (I am 47 now :)). This trip has not only get me to fullfill this dream, but also to even get to see other fascinating places in Peru like Lake Titicaca or the Rainbow Mountain. The trip is expensive but worth every penny.

I only have great things to say about the trip and everything about it: the planning and organizing and the people that have been involved to make this experience unforgettable. Jessica has been absolutely amazing providing answers to all - sometimes even silly - questions and making sure every single request from our side has been met and included in the itinerary. I must admit, I was a bit worried at first booking such an expensive trip online like this, no receipts, no "actual" people we're interacting with, it felt a bit uncertain. Also, I was worried about the situation in Peru and whether it would be unstable/turbulent there. None of my fears turned out to have any ground and it was the smoothest trip I've ever been on! Well, apart from constantly being sick, but that had only to do with my own immune system :D So my huge appreciation goes out to Jess! Thanks for all the patience with us while drafting out this adventure! Our first guide on the ground was Maykel and he showed us the wonders of the Puno region. He has such a passion for his work, his country and history - it was a pleasure listening to his stories. Then we met Emilia in Cusco and we stayed with her all throughout the Cusco - Machu Picchu - Rainbow Mountain journey. Also her passion and pride for her country and background has rubbed off :) She is such a wonderful and warm person, it was great being taken care of by her during those days. Lastly, in the Amazon region, we were taken care by Carlos and Jaiver, who once again were so clearly in love with the jungle, the nature and their work! Their ability to feel the forest was absolutely mind-blowing - it felt like they could see right through it, when they knew where to turn to find a tarantula in the complete darkness or to spot an iguana up on a treetop when passing by at high speed on a boat (when we came to a halt, it took me a while to see the iguana and I just kept wondering how on earth did they manage to see it so quickly?) but it's just that it's in their blood - and it's fantastic to know that there are people like them living there and taking such loving care of the "lungs of our planet".
Huge thanks to the entire kimkim team for making my dream come true! You're all fantastic!

Nice hotel with good location. Quite noisy as the room was right below the kitchen and all the rattling starting at 5am was pretty loud. Also, no windows going out to the street - but only to the inside of the hotel - was a minus.

I have a bit of mixed feelings about this one - I both loved it and felt like it was a huge challenge :D First of all, no one told me there would be these hanging bridges at 20 m height that I'd need to cross to get to and out of the room! I'm afraid of heights so to me it was a huge deal to cross it without any security rope attached to me. But then I took it as a way to face and embrace my fears so I dealt with it and got better at it with time :) Secondly, all the wildlife was both fantastic and scary at the same time :D Waking up to the birds' songs at sunrise is the best medicine for us westerners to calm down our boiling stressed out minds, along with watching dozens of various colorful butterflies float around - to me it was like being in paradise. At the same time, being greeted by buzzing flying monsters and creeping lizards on the walls in the bathroom at night was not something for the sensitive souls :D But once again, i took it as a challenge and made myself proud at the end :D The staff was absolutely wonderful. I got very sick upon my arrival and couldn't eat regular food so they cooked me the most delicious chicken broth and mint tea which I think was what helped me recover so quickly. When i did get to finally enjoy the proper food - it was delicious and so nicely presented, like in the most luxurious resorts. To me, despite the sickness, it was a much needed escape to the heart of the nature which helped me relax and completely recover in just a couple of days from all the stress of everyday life.

very friendly staff and took the time for us to ride the quads and be comfortable with navigating before heading out! My sister was scared and the guide took her on his bike and she loved it! I wish it was longer and didnt know that there was a lagoon quad bike tour (perhaps worth exploring too!) with did the Moray and Maras and was fun to tour with Quads for sure!! We went in November and was still amazing weather.

We were orginally supposed to be in Costa Rica on a very different business vacation, and the weather caused us to need to cancel and rethink what we were going to do. Yes, there were a few hiccups, but overall, we would recommend Liz Karen and KimKim Tours to others...actually we alrady have!

We appreciated the phenomenal tours and guides! WOW! FABULOUS!
We also appreciated Liz Karen's swift service when we were experiencing a delay with our airport driver---she was on it and had us a driver in no time to be sure we got to the airport without missing our flight.

Speaking of drivers, it was a relief to have good drivers transporting us to everything, as traffic can be a nightmare in Peru...so it is best to leave the driving to the professionals, so we could enjoy our trip even moreso!

We also recommed you consider their recommendations. They set us up on a Organic Farm Tour and Lunch, that ended up being once of the highlights of our trip that we cannot see, to stop talking about! Had we stuck to only the "highlights" we would have missed out on this incredible experience!!!!

We are already looking at where we want to go next and have already reached out to KimKim tour s for suggestions on various itineraries,,,,and we love the "Independent style" KimKim Tours provide---it's much like what I normally would coordinate...only with a whole lot less hassle for me!!!! We believe their professional connections helped to may our trip even better than if we had booked/coordinated each component ourselves!

5 stars for service!!!!!

Awful, horrible. terrible. Insects in our beds, no hot water to take a shower or wash properly. LOUD LOUD LOUD! Staff was discourteous...we felt like we couldn't complain because we needed them to store our luggage while we explored Machu Pichu. We couldn't wait to get out of that place. We've stayed in backpacker's hostels WAY better than this place. Good part: Great view of river from window and good banana pancakes. NOTE: We reported to KimKim Tour and they have assured us they will be taking care of the poor service, on our behalf. Highly recommend you do NOT stay there!

Clean with no insects, be sure the hot water is running, try insolating the rooms and asking alte guests to use quiet voices. When we met with Lisbeth, it was great. We had some issues before because, even after preseting my passport for travel docs. my name was incorrect on the air boarding passes, etc, and so the airpline gave me a lot of grief because my name didn't match. We also were never sent the boarding passes...instead Lisbeth had sent to our son who was our emergency contact. It was an honest mistake ad she worked very hard to get it fixed quickly and what we appreciated was that she owne the mistake of sending to our son. We are all human, and just owning that was huge on her part, ad we appreciated her efforts. For the rest of our time, if we needed to reach out she was resonsive...until the last day when in Cuzco when our airport driver didn't show up. She did communicate, but not much...we eneded up getting the main cordinator involved and a new driver was sent to us immediately....it was kind of a bummer, because overall it had been great, and then she dropped the ball with communication at the very end, when we were most stressed. Such a shame, because she was very helpful all the other times.

We fully loved the hotels we stayed at once we clarified the types of places we wanted to stay and appreciated the extra activities like a cooking class in Cusco and the wonderful lunches planned. We also truly LOVED our tour guide, Flor. She was the absolute best and made every excursion a great experience full of learning and fun! She couldn't be any sweeter and we would 100% book with her specifically again. The drivers were lovely as well and for most part were always on time if not early. The pace of the trip was perfect for us as well. The only feedback and change we'd make was on the Aguas Calientes stay, we'd have liked to stay there 2 nights so we would have had a place to relax and unwind after our massive hiking day of Waynapicchu and Machu Picchu. It was just WAY too long of a day to do all that AND take the 1 hour 40 min train back to Ollyantambo and then another almost 2 hour drive to Cusco. That's the only negative feedback we have was we wish we'd been given that option and suggestion as it was a long day and hard physical day. Thank you again for all your planning and hard work!
