What you'll do

Your scenic trip begins at the Flåm city center, where you'll meet your guide and board an electric minibus. The first stop is Otternes Bygdetun, a delightful cluster of 18th-century farmhouses. Here, you can wander through the area for 15 minutes and soak in its fascinating history, which suggests that people have lived here since 300 CE. The picturesque views over Flåm and the fjord are a highlight.

Next, you'll head to the charming village of Aurland. During the 35-minute stop, you have the option to visit the historic Vangen Church, dating back to 1202, and/or the Aurland Shoe Factory, famed for making the world's first penny loafer (closed on Sundays). As you continue, capture the majesty of Rjoandefossen with its impressive 791-foot (241 m) drop during a brief 10-minute stop.

The drive proceeds to the Flåm Church, a quaint wooden structure from 1667, where you'll have a chance for a quick visit. The final stop is at Brekkefossen waterfall, close to Flåm's center. Here, you can opt to ascend the stone steps, crafted by Nepalese sherpas, for a closer view of the waterfall or stay with the bus for a more relaxed experience. This flexible outing allows you to tailor your adventure, making it an ideal addition for travelers seeking to explore Norway's natural beauty and rich history.

Note that there's limited luggage space on board the bus. Ensure you make arrangements to store larger bags prior to setting off.

Tips for future travelers

If the driver offers you to let you at one of the last waterfalls, to climb up and walk back to Flam, just do it. It is worth the effort.
