What you'll do

You'll meet your fellow diners at the Dreggekaien quay on Bryggen in time for a scenic boat ride to Cornelius Sjømatrestaurant (Seafood Restaurant), one of Norway's best seafood establishments, perched right by the sea on an islet off Bjorøyna island. The boat ride takes about 25 minutes, and you can enjoy a drink as you take in the mountains, skerries, and other boats and ships before it's time to disembark and be greeted warmly by the attentive staff.

Once inside, prepare to indulge in the renowned "Meteorological Menu," an innovative five-course feast the chefs tailor daily based on the local weather and the freshest catches. This culinary adventure is a treat for seafood lovers, as it showcases a variety of shellfish and fish, each dish artistically presented to excite both your eyes and palate. As you savor each course, you'll likely meet the owner, who often steps away from the kitchen to visit with diners. 

Given there's only one return boat, the unhurried pace of the dining experience is set, allowing you to slow down and fully be in the moment. Then, when it's time to return to Bergen (around 10 pm), the staff will see you off from the dock, a long-standing and friendly tradition. Every season at Cornelius offers a distinct culinary experience; on beautiful summer days, it's possible to enjoy outdoor dining with lighter fare. During cooler months, you can sit inside a cozy dining room with a fireplace and candles.

I'm glad I brought my book to read between courses. There was a lot of "down time"

I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. The owner was very sexist and the food was bland and the worst meal we had In Norway. We would have preferred to stay in Bergen that night instead of spending 5 hours on this trip. Read more

During dinner the owner stopped by each table to greet and welcome, in addition to giving the entire restaurant a brief back story to the origin of Cornelius and the island itself. The food was a culinary treat - five courses each with unique combinations of flavors and presentation. Very extensive wine selection. A luxury to have unrushed fine dining in a unique setting only accessible via boat. (or helicopter) The staff... Read more

A warm and memorable experience. Have already recommended this place to others and would definitely return.
