What you'll do

Meet your e-tuk-tuk driver and guide at one of two Lisbon locations—either near the city's main train station, Rossio, or close to the main square, Praça do Comércio. Over the next two hours, you'll drive through the winding, steep streets of the Graça, Alfama, Bairro Alto, and Chiado districts, stopping at some of the Portuguese capital's most famous landmarks along the 28 tram route. Seeing the sights in a private, electric tuk-tuk instead means that you get to travel in comfort, with as many stops as you like.

Your first stop will be Sé de Lisboa (Lisbon Cathedral), which dates back to 1150 and is the city's oldest church, although it did need to be rebuilt after the devastating 1755 earthquake. Here, you'll learn about the religious and resilient side of the Alfacinhas (people from Lisbon) as you take in the intricate details of the cathedral's facade. Next, you'll make your way to two of the city's most striking viewpoints, including Miradouro Senhora do Monte, where you'll take in panoramic views of the city's terracotta rooftops, Castelo de São Jorge (Saint George's Castle), and out to the distant Ponte 25 de Abril bridge.

As you cruise through the Alfama neighborhood, you'll stop at the National Pantheon to hear about the famous Portuguese men and women buried here. Your guide will explain the cultural significance of fado (a Portuguese music form) as you pass the Fado Museum and tell you about the annual summer festivities that take place in these narrow, cobbled streets. While you zip through the old Moorish quarter, look for the casas de fado (fado houses), where you can hear the "blues of Lisbon" playing out in the evenings.

Your next district will be the laid-back Chiado, where you'll see plenty of cafés and hip shops, including the world's oldest bookshop, Livraria Bertrand, established in 1732 by two French brothers. Your driver will then take you through the steep streets of Bairro Alto, the city's bohemian district, where you'll see a mix of street art and religious buildings. The final stop on your e-tuk-tuk adventure is Largo do Carmo, a large, flowery square surrounded by ruins that was the site of a 1974 revolution. To end, your driver will drop you back at the starting point.

The tuk-tuk tour in Lisbon was another highlight. Our driver was punctual, knowledgeable, and spent plenty of time with us, giving us a rich history of the city. Lisbon's steep hills can be a lot to handle on foot, so this was a perfect way to see the city without too much walking. It was a great way to get around and learn about Lisbon.

The tuk-tuk was fun but temperatures were very high and the tuk-tuk top was transparent plastic so we were hot. Also, driver facing forward was hard to hear.
