The entire day was very good with a boat tour and a winery visit included. However, our driver was late picking us up, said he was feeling under the weather. Later he mentioned that he was a wedding the night before and had little sleep. His driving was erratic and he again was late picking us up at the end of the day. First he blamed a car event taking place in the town and then later said he had been sleeping while we were on the winery tour. Read more

We loved our ride to Douro Valley. Ivo was our driver but he’s also a guide and knows both Porto & Douro Valley. We learned so much from him. He’s the BEST!! One of our favorite moments was going off the beaten path and seeing an area that we would have never seen on our own.

Tips for future travelers

You MUST get out of the city and go to the country side, it’s beautiful and we went when nothing was in bloom. Also, there’s some discussion about specifically being with Ivo and being introduced to a local Portuguese family and farm and dining and having drinks with them. If this was an option we would have completely loved to have done something like that. Please consider it!!

Ivo is a great conversationalist, he’s funny and he’s knowledgeable about the area. And he’s a skilled driver! There are some tricky roads with no guardrails and he knew how to navigate. We especially loved that he took us off the beaten path (with our permission of course).
