Our guide, Emanuel, was very knowledgeable, friendly, and funny. He knew a lot about the local flora and fauna, and the history of the area we were in. Despite him believing the water was too cold, he was happy to let me go for a swim in some waterfalls :). We had a great visit in a local village and enjoyed some drinks at a small pub to cap off the day.

Tips for future travelers

This was a light group hike suitable for most fitness and skill levels - if you are looking for a more challenging hike, be sure to specify as I believe these guides can take you on longer, more challenging hikes if you wish.

Tips for future travelers

Make sure people know it’s a 1 1/2 hour plus drive to the park. We didn’t realize it took that long to get there. We would have gone any way but it would be better to know the travel time in advance

Tips for future travelers

The trip destinations could have been shortened in duration. It seemed that many places we walked to had a long pause at the destination and people within our group were wondering what’s next. It’s not a complaint about the destination, more just an observation of how this could be sped up for a better experience and to result in us returning to our hotels on time.

While all of our excursions in Portugal were awesome, this trip to Geres may have been our favorite. This park is simply gorgeous. The landscape was beautiful and at times rugged, but our guide made sure we always felt safe and were ready to keep going. The views from the day were incredible. The mid-day meal was exceptional - it was a lot of food. We enjoyed seeing the small village and learning about its history. We really liked how the tour company worked along with the community to help give back by letting us plant a seedling (oaks and chestnuts) that in the future would be replanted in the forest.

Tips for future travelers

Yes, do it. Definitely bring your hiking boots. Several people on our tour had on tennis shoes and they were slipping a bit. If you do this tour, come to hike. This is for those who want to do a little work. If you are looking for a car or bus tour of the Geres, this is NOT your adventure.

Antonio was a great guide. His knowledge of the area and the local village was great. I personally liked his playlist, and will always remember going through the Geres park listening to Guns-n-Roses.
Transport
On time, perfect vehicle for the terrain, which was rough but expected (this is NOT a complaint.).

Didn’t know what to expect which may have good and bad. Hiking was the right amount and the added swimming holes were amazing and I should have better prepared for them. Peneda-Gerês National Park is an amazing nature preserve with a tranquil water pool, secluded and welcoming for a quick soak. We learned about the wolf trap and reviewed the ruins of the trap. Then it was time for a hand-prepared lunch with an assortment of Portuguese foods, soup, and desserts. Finally, on the way back we hiked down to a few more pools and all took a good long peaceful soak. We also saw a working water-powered Olive press that was still revitalized each season by the locals... Read more

Make sure to ask how full the Jeep will be and mention if you have knee or back issues because the back of the Jeep is a rough long ride.

Quality of Experience
The trip into Partugal's natural forest was serene. The soaks in the natural pools are incredible.
Food
The meal they made for us after the hike was authentic and tasty.
Guides, Drivers and Staff
It was Nuno's last day but he was attentive, held a wealth of knowledge, and very caring for each person.

I was probably the least fit person of the group - but the guide made sure we went at a decent pace. Maybe two swims was not required as they were people in our group who were not keen on swimming and we could have done a viewing point instead.

Quality of Experience
The parts we liked - were opportunity to trek and swim and the food was good. There were also good breaks in between the drive which was helpful. Didnt enjoy as much the walk around the village
Food
The lunch served in the village was good.
Guides, Drivers and Staff
Our guide was very knowledgeable and was able to answer all our questions about the park as she had lived within the park herself.
Transport
The car was a bit old and since it was packed with 7 people with a good 3-4 hours on the road - not entirely comfortable for people with long legs.

This was a lovely trip to add on to a City stay. Having a day trip to a national park day trip to be outside with nature was a nice contrast to restaurants, tours and shopping. Carlos was a great guide. He was very knowledgable about nature. Everything about the day went smoothly, including the picnic, which was a nice touch. Carlos found out we had never been to Spain, so he took a little extra time to drive over the border, so we could say we have been to Spain! Read more
