Hike to Lac Blanc in the French Alps, Chamonix

Enjoy a full day trekking in beautiful Chamonix, hiking to the one-and-only Lac Blanc (Lake Blanc) set at 7760 feet (over 2300 m). This route is set in the Chamonix Valley, offering panoramic views of Mont Blanc, the most famous peak in the French Alps. 

You can start in the village of Les Praz, but you can also opt for the gondola up to Flegere (5940 feet (1810 m)) to shorten the ascent. In that case, the moderate hike takes you up 1,650 feet (500 m) along a scenic and well-defined, yet sometimes steep, trail. At the lake, you'll find many beautiful spots to take a break and enjoy a picnic lunch.

To make the route a circular hike, you can take a different path down, passing by other smaller lakes on the way back to the cablecar station and the valley.
