What you'll do
The fun begins at the main parking lot of Jökulsárlón, where you'll meet your friendly experts at their small box van, fully equipped to provide you with everything needed for a safe and enjoyable excursion. Before setting off, you'll be equipped with a two-piece drysuit, life vest, kayak boots, and of course, your kayak. While the activity requires reasonable fitness, the stable sit-on-top kayaks make it accessible to most travelers, including the inexperienced.
Over the course of about an hour on the Arctic waters, you'll navigate amid drifting icebergs, each varying in shape and size, and possibly get the chance to see local wildlife, such as seals sunbathing on the ice and a variety of birds soaring overhead, offering photo opportunities at every turn.
