Matapalo Birding Hike, Puerto Jiménez

Start your day with an exciting birding and hiking tour through the lush nature of Costa Rica's Osa Peninsula. You'll begin with a two-hour tour in the Matapalo area, which is not only known for its incredible surfing but also its sustainability initiatives that protect the area's wildlife. As you hike, you'll spot many exotic birds, including some of the 360 bird species that call the area home. Keep an eye out for the famous blue morpho butterfly, too. You're also likely to see all four of Costa Rica's main monkey species cavorting through the trees.

During your birding and hiking tour, high-quality binoculars will be provided, giving you the best possible views of the wildlife. You'll also be treated to a light snack, tea, and coffee during the tour.

After your birding and hiking tour, continue your adventure by exploring a rainforest river. Here, you'll have the opportunity to spot endemic species like poison dart frogs and other unique creatures. Hike along the river's banks until you reach a secluded waterfall. The falls plunge down into a tropical lagoon, which is perfect for swimming. Take a dip and cool off after your exciting adventure.

Your tour ends at the entrance to Matapalo, normally at noon. Please note that transportation from Puerto Jimenez to Matapalo and back is not included. We recommend taking this tour in the morning to see more birds and because so much wildlife can be seen in such a short distance.
