Overview

Chase the Northern Lights and capture the beauty of Norway at night. Your hosts commit themselves to find the Aurora Borealis and will drive around in the pursuit of clear skies. Along the way, you'll learn about the science behind the colors and hear stories about local culture, folklore, and myths associated with the phenomenon.

Once you spot the Northern Lights, the guides will help you adjust your camera settings for the perfect photo. They're also happy to take a few shots of you with the lights in the background. On the way back, you can visit a lavvu (a modern Sami shelter) and enjoy a warm bonfire for roasting marshmallows.

The owner/tour guide really went above and beyond driving all the way to Finland to find clear skies to see the northern lights! The excursion went longer than expected to make sure we all got a chance to see the lights and take pictures with them. Guide was very knowledgeable and a talent photographer. Bus was brand new and cozy as well. The guide also shared cultural stories on the ride too and is a Sami indigenous person herself. She was very funny and entertaining as well. Meeting place... Tips for future travelers

There was a bathroom stop on the way and another stop for the ride home was offered but no one wanted it so it was skipped over. The has one row of two seats together and one row of single seats as well as 4 seats across the back so some people may not be able to sit together. The excursion went long which was a good thing however if I had known that I wouldn't have scheduled it the night before we were leaving because we didn't get back to our hotel until 2:30am and had to be up at 5:45 to catch our flight home.

Due to weather, we had to chase the lights rather than go to the outfitter's home base. Trina (our guide) was great - very enthusiastic and clearly has a lot of experience chasing the auroras. We had to drive to within 20 minutes of the Finland border, which meant a 2+ hour drive in each direction. We didn't get back to hotel until after 2 am, which was about an hour later than expected (and rough since we had an early morning flight to Bergen!) Read more
