What you'll do

After meeting your private guide in front of the tourism office, you'll start your walk through the city, learning all its hidden secrets, corners, and legends along the way. Logroño's roots stretch back as far as the Celtiberian tribes of the late centuries BCE, and it was once an important Roman shipping port. Today it's the thriving capital of La Rioja, known for its culinary prowess and as an important stop along the famous Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route. Today's stroll will take you through some of its most important landmarks as you explore the Old Town and leafy, park-filled center bisected by the River Ebro.

Your first stop is the Wall Revellín, the remains of the 16th-century medieval fortifications, including the perfectly preserved western gate. Just around the corner is the Parliament, a beautiful building that once housed the Convent of Mercy. Next, follow your guide to the 16th-century Church of Santiago el Real, where you'll admire its Renaissance facade. You'll also view the exteriors of the Catedral de Santa María and the 12th-century Church of San Bartolomé.

Enjoy strolling through the Plaza Mercado and viewing the exterior of the Museum of La Rioja, set in an 18th-century palace, as your guide shares the city's important relationship with the famous Camino de Santiago pilgrimage. You'll end your walk through Logroño at "La Laurel," a lively area full of alleyways and side streets lined with pintxos taverns. It's the perfect sport for dinner after you part ways with your guide, hopping from one bar to the next to try different kinds of pintxos (Basque Country tapas) and Rioja wines.
