Learn to catch a wave at Salsa Brava, one of the Caribbean's most legendary surf breaks! Located near the colorful town of Puerto Viejo de Talamanca, this area offers some of Costa Rica's best surfing conditions. Enjoy a private two-hour lesson that is both family- and beginner-friendly, with options for travelers of all ages. After a 15-minute intro on the beach, you'll head into the water with your surf instructor. Even first-timers can usually stand up on their surfboards and ride their first waves by the end of the class. Note that participants must be able to swim.

What you'll do

Transfer from your accommodations to the beach at Salsa Brava. Meet your private instructor and get outfitted with a board.

You'll participate in a short 15-minute introductory overview while still on the sand, learning the basics of surfing and the standards for etiquette. Then it's time to plunge into the water and practice! Your guide will help you choose the best waves—most participants, even beginners, are able to get up on their surfboards during the class.

After the two-hour lesson, keep practicing or relax on the beach. You'll head back to your hotel to finish the activity.

Did not need the cab, could have just met on the beach if we had known the meet up spot.

Unnecessary for us, we could have walked and instead paid two cabs we did not need , but we did not know final meet up so now that we know we would have walked instead of taking cab to school and then back tracked to beach
