What you'll do

This immersive experience allows you to get hands-on with Portuguese cooking and gain knowledge to bring to your kitchen back home, whether you're a novice cook or an experienced chef. You'll begin this culinary adventure with a visit to a local market to source your ingredients, accompanied by the expert chef who will lead your cooking class. The chef will pick the traditional Portuguese recipes of the day depending on the season and help you pick out the best produce, meat, and seafood for your meal.

After gathering all you need from the market, you'll return to the cozy and welcoming kitchen, where the chef will show you how to make a 3-course meal of favorite local dishes. This will include a seafood dish, a meat one, and a dessert, so if you're a vegetarian, let the chef know, so you can adjust accordingly. Don't worry about not remembering the recipe either; you'll get a copy of the recipes at the end of the class, so you can keep practicing these skills at home.

Once your meal is prepared, you'll get the chance to taste all your hard work with a sit-down lunch. Relax with these tasty traditional dishes and enjoy a complimentary glass of wine or nonalcoholic beverage, as you chat with your classmates and go over all you've learned for the day. After lunch, you'll be free to leave to keep exploring Lisbon or return to your accommodations.

Artur was SO lovely, it was like cooking lunch with an old friend. We visited the market and shopped for fresh ingredients, learning some tips on how to find and store the ingredients properly. We walked back to Artur's house where he has a well-appointed and cozy kitchen and learned some of his techniques, and how to get the best flavour out of fresh, simple dishes. We enjoyed a lunch of roasted tomatoes, sea bass, asparagus, pinto beans, mushrooms, suckling pig ribs, roasted almonds, mango,... Read more

We enjoyed a lunch of roasted tomatoes, sea bass, asparagus, pinto beans, mushrooms, suckling pig ribs, roasted almonds, mango, and queso fresco (and of course vino verdhe!) This was a highlight of our trip for sure!

Tips for future travelers

There was a slight mix-up with booking transport, so be sure to confirm if pick up is at the hotel or if you are to meet the chef at the market.

Transport
We were told that pickup would be at our hotel, but it turned out transportation had not been booked. We were able to take a taxi to the market but this did result in us being late to meet Artur. Overall, our experience was still amazing and we were grateful that we could still proceed with the cooking class and market visit!

We had lots of fun making the delicious food, but be warned that this was supposed to take 3 hours and ended up being a 6 hour activity instead! That being said, the market visit was great and was basically a tasting before the whole thing started. We just wish we had known how long everything was going to take!

A good experience, It would have been better if we'd been given copies (or received by email) the recipes we prepared.

The lunch we prepared was great!
Guides, Drivers and Staff
The cooking teacher was personable and a good cook--but she didn't offer many explanations about what she was doing or why,
