What you'll do
Your afternoon of wine tasting starts just around the corner from the Louvre at Les Caves du Louvre, a series of historic wine cellars built in the 18th century by the sommelier to King Louis XV. Here, you'll meet your knowledgeable caviste, an expert in both fine wines and artisan cheeses, who'll serve as your guide through the 1.5-hour tasting session. Sit down around a large, solid oak table in the atmospheric cellars, and chat with fellow wine enthusiasts as you learn about the rich history and time-honored traditions of wine and cheese production in France.
You'll sample three distinct wines, each expertly paired with cheeses from the renowned La Fromagerie du Louvre, an adjoining cheese shop that sources artisan, small-batch products from regional farms that use sustainable farming methods and rare, endemic livestock breeds. During the tasting, your sommelier will teach you about each wine's unique flavors and aromas, and you'll learn how to identify specific notes and evaluate the bouquet and mouthfeel like an expert. Discover why certain cheeses pair with specific wines, and come away with a newfound knowledge you can use during the rest of your trip.
