Choose from eight comfy room types, all following the property's trendy theme with cool decor and bold colors. You can easily walk to major sites, including Arc de Triomf, Casa Milà, and La Sagrada Família, resting your feet at the rooftop bar after a day of exploring the city. Pros

  • The hotel is next door to one metro (and one block from another) that takes you into the city center or the beach.
  • Thanks to a superb location, you'll be within walking distance of major sites, including Arc de Triomf, Casa Milà, and La Sagrada Família.
  • Enjoy four on-site eateries to satisfy any palate, including a specialty coffee bar and gourmet tapas restaurant.
  • A rooftop terrace (open to hotel guests only) has a high-energy beach theme.
  • The cocktail bar features live music on occasion.

Cons

  • The rooms within the "tiny" category feel like they could use a little updating.

Additional Notes From Ash

I'm convinced this is the coolest hotel in Barcelona, yet also super welcoming. After touring the eclectic, all-in-one lobby bar, restaurant, and lounge (I'm a fan), I went straight for the hotel's specialty coffee bar (one of the city's best). The rooms' decor and vibe are pure Barcelona, and the rooftop terrace is amazing (reserved for guests only). If you've ever been to a Spanish beach, you'll know what a chiringuito is, and the rooftop transports you right to a lively beach bar!

Authenticity

Casa Bonay feels like its own little Barcelona haven. Though set in a peaceful, residential neighborhood, you get the best of both worlds: a glimpse into authentic life in Barcelona and an energetic vibe with a rooftop terrace and the property's own specialty coffee bar.

Location

Set on the corner of Eixample and El Born neighborhoods, the location feels more local than the heart of the tourist areas, though you can still walk to many significant sites, including the Arc de Triomf, Casa Milà, and (bonus) La Sagrada Família. You'll also be next door to the Tetuan metro and one block from the Girona metro, should you want to zip across the city or head to the beach.

Rooms & Bathrooms

The hotel exudes energy and vibrance, with modern and trendy decor in bright and bold colors. Casa Bonay has eight room types, all following this colorful theme. To fully take advantage of the hotel's essence, we suggest skipping the "tiny room" category and grabbing a passage- or courtyard-facing room or upgrading to one with a private terrace featuring hammocks, sun loungers, and an outdoor shower.

Amenities

You can spend your afternoon siesta time lazing at the rooftop terrace, complete with dining, sun loungers, couches, and an outdoor shower to rinse off after sunbathing. Many rooms offer room service and yoga kits. The hotel is wheelchair friendly, with two elevators to the upper floors, but there are also accessible rooms on the ground floor.

Family-Friendliness

Although the hotel is more suited to couples, children of all ages are welcome at Casa Bonay. Since most rooms are on the small side, families may need to book multiple rooms or book one of the larger rooms that can fit three people plus a baby cot.

Other Highlights

Enjoy a meal at one of the hotel's four eateries, including a specialty coffee bar (TosTao), a cocktail lounge with bar food (Libertine), a rooftop bar and barbecue restaurant (Chiringuito), and a gourmet tapas spot with natural wine and local ingredients (Bodega Bonay).

Great location, very close to public transit and easy to get around. Our room was comfortable and the included breakfast in the hotel lounge was excellent. Bottled water was provided in the room and service was prompt when we requested anything. Our only issue was that we had difficulty setting the water temperature in the shower. Some days it was difficult to get the water hot enough or the hot water seemed to run out after one shower, but other days it was ok. Read more

The vibe of the room, lounge, and attached restaurant all felt authentic to the area and it was nice to open the curtains to people watch along the street.

I recently had the opportunity to stay at Casa Bonay Hotel, but I must say it wasn't my preferred choice, and I wouldn't rank it high on my list of recommendations. The hotel has a distinctive hipster vibe, which may appeal to some, but it didn't quite resonate with me.

First and foremost, the rooms were disappointingly tiny. It felt cramped, and the lack of space was exacerbated by the limited storage options. The only storage available was two small drawers and open hanging for clothing. As someone who appreciates convenience while traveling, I found this arrangement impractical and inconvenient.

However, one redeeming feature of the room was the wonderful balcony. It provided a sense of openness and helped alleviate the feeling of being confined. It was a much-needed respite from the claustrophobic atmosphere inside the room.

On a positive note, Casa Bonay does offer a fantastic rooftop deck. Unfortunately, during both of my nights there, I encountered difficulties finding available seating. The rooftop area was reserved for an event, leaving guests without the opportunity to enjoy this feature. This situation was quite frustrating and left me feeling disappointed.

Considering the overall experience, in my opinion, Casa Bonay Hotel is overpriced. Given the limited amenities, cramped rooms, and the inconveniences I encountered, I believe that the room rates should be significantly lower. While the hotel does have its positive aspects, such as the balcony and the rooftop deck (if accessible), they do not compensate for the overall shortcomings.

In conclusion, if you prefer a hipster atmosphere and are willing to overlook the small rooms and limited storage space, Casa Bonay Hotel might be worth considering. However, based on my personal experience, I would not prioritize this hotel as my first, second, or even third choice.
