El Museo Living & Experience Club Apartments, Málaga

5.0 (2 reviews) · Comfort
Unique apartments that double as a museum with mid-century furnishings and contemporary art

Overview

For a unique stay, look no farther than El Museo, known as "The Museum" and described as a "living and experience club." This accommodation features original or vintage mid-century furnishings and contemporary art displays in its apartments. Units are simple yet unique, and you'll find a cozy library lounge in addition to a rooftop terrace with lounge chairs, a Jacuzzi tub, and an honesty bar.

Pros
  • The property's motto is "sleep in a museum," as each of its 30 apartments features original or vintage mid-century furniture, decor, and contemporary art displays.
  • You'll also find a museum theme in the common areas, such as the Le Corbusier Club, a library lounge where you can sip drinks and peruse the art.
  • Four apartment types (studio suites, one-bedroom apartments, two-bedroom apartments, and multi-level penthouse flats) sleep up to six guests.
  • Relax on the rooftop terrace with a sun deck, lounge chairs, a Jacuzzi tub, and an honesty bar.
  • The apartments have colorful SMEG appliances, like toasters and kettles.
Cons
  • The mid-century concept is appealing but leaves the rooms feeling a bit simple.
  • There's a four-night minimum stay in the summer and during other peak holidays, so the hotel might not work unless you plan to make Málaga a base for a few days.

Authenticity

The property refers to itself as El Museo, meaning "The Museum," and uses the motto "sleep in a museum" to describe its unique concept. The hotel's furnishings and decor are all original or vintage pieces from the mid-century, and you'll find contemporary art displays throughout the building. Each of the 30 apartments dubs itself an individual art exhibit.

Location

El Museo is on a quiet street, Calle Madre de Dios, that leads right to the buzzy and café-lined Plaza de la Merced and runs parallel to the childhood home of Picasso. You'll be within walking distance of many restaurants, grocery stores, and sites like the Cathedral, Alcazaba, Teatro Romano, Castillo de Gibralfaro, and Málaga Park.

Rooms & Bathrooms

You can choose from four apartment types: studio, one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and penthouse. All have kitchens with SMEG appliances, dining areas, living rooms, and local artists' original or vintage mid-century furniture. The duplex penthouse has a private terrace, and the two-bedroom option can sleep up to six people.

Amenities

Relax on the rooftop terrace with a sun deck, umbrellas, lounge furniture, and a large Jacuzzi. Although the hotel is generally accessible to those with wheelchairs, the rooftop can only be reached by a set of stairs.

Family-Friendliness

El Museo Living & Experience Club does welcome children of any age, but it’s not been designed with children in mind. With original 1950s furniture and works of art, if you’re a parent with young children, you will want to keep an eye on them. However, larger rooms are suitable for families and children under 12 get to stay for free.

Other Highlights

Enjoy sipping drinks in the Le Corbusier Club, a trendy library lounge with art displays. You can grab drinks from the Prouvé Honesty bar while enjoying views of the Cathedral, Alcazaba, and Gibralfaro Castle.

Very nice hotel. Location was great, but it was a bit crowded when the pull-out couch is in use, otherwise the rooms worked well. Read more
