Fauna Hotel, Valparaíso

Fauna Hotel is a modern property that channels Valparaíso's renowned art scene from its prime location on a pedestrian street in Cerro Alegre. Just one block from Ascensor Reina Victoria, one of the city's original 20th-century funiculars, this hotel gives you access to Valparaíso's historic neighborhood that's filled with galleries, restaurants, and shops. Cementerio N° 1 is just a 10-minute walk, as is the Cultural Park. Plaza Sotomayor and Muelle Prat are about 15 minutes away, making this an ideal base to explore the city on foot, so long as you don't mind climbing a hill (or three).

The hotel has just over 20 rooms divided into three categories, all of which were designed with the help of Chilean artists, whose work is featured in the rooms and adds an element of fun to them. The style of the rooms is cozy, minimalist, and chic, mixing natural and sustainable materials with modern artwork. Standard Rooms can feel tight and look out onto alleys or the hotel's patio, so consider a Superior Room or Fauna Suite for a nicer view and more space. These higher categories include views of Cerro Concepción and may partially look out onto the bay. Bathrooms have large rainfall showerheads.

The rooftop terrace and restaurant is a great place to have a meal and take in a panoramic view of Valparaíso Bay and its hills. There's also a massage room on-site, where you can decompress after a day of hiking up and down the steep streets.
