Hôtel Lorette - Astotel, Paris

4.2 (20 reviews) · Standard
Simple yet charming hotel in the 9th arrondissement, offering modern rooms, a vaulted cellar breakfast area, and an outdoor terrace

Overview

Tucked behind the 19th-century facade of a historic Haussman-style building, the simple but charming Hôtel Lorette provides a comfortable base in central Paris. Its outstanding location puts landmarks like Sacré-Coeur, Montmartre, and the Palais Garnier all within a 20-minute walk, and just around the corner, the Saint-George metro stop takes guests to the Champs-Élysées in 15 minutes. The small but comfortable rooms blend bright colors and modernity with the building's elegant original details, and a peaceful courtyard patio and stylish lobby complete the picture.

Kimkim's Take

Pros
  • You'll find yourself amid Paris' vibrant 9th arrondissement, close to Montmartre and with easy access to the Saint-Georges metro station.
  • The pretty courtyard garden provides a welcome retreat, complete with tables, chairs, and potted plants.
  • Historic accents throughout the 19th-century Haussmann building give the property some unique character.
  • A continental breakfast buffet is set out each morning in the hotel's beautiful vaulted cellar.
Cons
  • Rooms are simple and small, but their large windows and natural light set them apart from the competition.
  • Bathrooms vary, with some of the smaller rooms' showers feeling cramped.
  • The convenient proximity to the metro means you can sometimes hear train noise on the lower floors.

Authenticity

Part of the popular French Astotel chain, the Hôtel Lorette is housed in a traditional Haussmann-style Parisian building. Renovated in 2012, it retains original features like a vaulted cellar (now a breakfast room), a marble staircase, and a spacious lobby with exposed stonework. The colorful modern decor juxtaposes nicely with the period features, creating something a little more stylish than your average chain hotel, and the charming outdoor courtyard, complete with potted palms a hot-pink sheep, is a real highlight of the property.

Location

Located on Rue Notre-Dame-de-Lorette in Paris' vibrant 9th arrondissement, the hotel is a short walk from cultural landmarks like the Theatre La Bruyere and the Moulin Rouge. The Sacré-Coeur Basilica is just 15 minutes away on foot, while the Galeries Lafayette department store is a 10-minute stroll. Despite being slightly removed from major monuments like the Louvre and Eiffel Tower, you're under a minute from the Saint-Georges metro station, making it easy to reach attractions like the Champs-Élysées in under 15 minutes. The Gare du Nord train station is a 30-minute walk or a 10-minute taxi ride away.

Rooms & Bathrooms

Rooms are small and simple, typical of the Astotel brand, but bright splashes of color, large windows, and modern accents give them a cheerful twist. Further thoughtful details like soft reading lights, a complimentary minibar, and potted plants help elevate them above the standard chain offerings. Options start with bare-bones Standard rooms but it's worth it to upgrade to the Superior for a little more space and windows overlooking the street. Apartments sleep three with a separate sitting room, and the Family suites can accommodate four in adjoining rooms. Bathrooms are bright and clean but basic.

Amenities

The bright, open courtyard is a particular treat for guests—pull up one of the candy-colored chairs and soak up some sun while you plan your day. In the lobby, you'll find a stylish area with comfortable armchairs where complimentary hot and soft drinks are served in the afternoons. While the hotel lacks a full restaurant, the continental buffet breakfast set out in the dramatic vaulted cellar is nicely done, and you'll find a generous spread of traditional French baked goods, cold meats, and local cheeses. You can also opt for an a la carte breakfast served in-room.

Family-Friendliness

Families are welcome at Hôtel Lorette - Astotel. The Apartment sleeps three, and the adjoining Family suite accommodates four between two rooms. You'll find cribs, a high chair, and changing mats available at request, and the hotel overlooks the Square Alex-Biscarre, a small park complete with a children's play area.

Staff were very kind and accommodating. I also liked the neighborhood it was located in-- gave more of a local vibe than touristy. The hotel however, needs major updating. Knicks were on the walls. The floor creaked like nothing I have ever heard before. The rooms were small. The shower was a hazard to get into. Water went everywhere when we showered.

The breakfast was awful. I am disappointed we paid for breakfast at the hotel when there were so many local bakeries/cafes nearby.
