Hotel Macià Alfaros, Córdoba

4.0 (1 review) · Comfort
Simple hotel channeling Al-Andalus culture and architecture with an outdoor pool and relaxed lounge bar

Overview

Though not a historic hotel, Macia Alfaros gets the job done with a comfortable space and great location just north of the Templo Romano and Plaza de la Corredera. The hotel used traditional culture and architecture as inspiration, so you can relax in the open-air courtyard with stone flooring or at the outdoor pool area with mosaics and fountains. The rooms are a bit dated, so opt for an upgraded unit for more space and a private terrace.

Pros
  • Set just north of the Templo Romano, this hotel is within walking distance of numerous sites, including Plaza de la Corredera, Puente Romano, the Mezquita-Catedral, and Alcázar Andalusí.
  • The breakfast buffet has something for everyone, including large displays of seasonal fruits, which you can enjoy in a humble dining area.
  • Grab a drink at the lounge bar or take it to the outdoor pool and sundeck, enclosed by the hotel's unique architectural style and complete with bubbling fountains, sun loungers, and stone mosaics.
  • You'll also find a lobby lounge, inner courtyard terrace, and fitness center.
Cons
  • The rooms are simple and could use some updates to match the hotel's historic vibe.

Authenticity

Though not a historic building itself, the hotel used the region's culture and architecture as inspiration during its construction. You'll find this on display in the outdoor spaces, such as the large inner courtyard with orange trees and stone flooring and the outdoor pool with mosaics and fountains.

Location

A short five-minute walk takes you to the 17th-century Plaza de la Corredera, passing the Templo Romano along the way. Continue walking to quickly get to other significant sites on foot, including the Mezquita-Catedral, Puente Romano, and all the spots in the Jewish Quarter, like the Synagogue and Plaza Maimónides.

Rooms & Bathrooms

Despite the hotel having a historical vibe with details like fountains near the pool, the rooms feel left behind. They're spacious and feature vintage sconces for lighting, but the decor could use some refreshing, as could the bathrooms. The furniture and bedding are quite basic, and overall, the simple rooms don't quite match the hotel's general cherry exterior and outdoor spaces. Opt for a suite with a seating area and terrace for extra space.

Other Highlights

The outdoor pool is certainly the highlight at Hotel Macia Alfaros. All the outdoor spaces feature inspiration from Al-Andalus culture and architecture, including the pool with its stone mosaics and trickling fountains. Take a dip or relax in a sun lounger with a drink from the bar. Breakfast is incredibly varied and diverse, served in a comfortable dining area. As a unique perk for Córdoba, you'll find onsite parking.

Well located and comfortable accomodation. But caters to large tour groups-- breakfast can be noisy and competitive.
