Authenticity
The Prince Hotel's story goes back to the 19th century, as it was once a guest house in the mid-1800s. However, it changed its look entirely following a transformation in 1936 by architect Robert H McIntyre into an Art Deco landmark. But the hotel's story goes beyond architecture, as it once served as a headquarters for the US military during World War II and later became a cornerstone of Melbourne's LGBTQIA scene with events like Pokey's Drag Show. The Prince's past also includes a stint in Melbourne's punk scene in the 1980s, and its concert venue has hosted iconic acts since it opened in 1950. Today, the hotel retains its Art Deco style while using design to tell its story via custom furniture and commissioned photography.Location
Located in the vibrant St Kilda district, The Prince Hotel is just a 5-minute walk from the beach so that travelers can enjoy Melbourne's bayside charm. The hotel resides amid the lively atmosphere of Fitzroy Street, surrounded by palm trees and close to the busy local scene. Travelers will find themselves conveniently positioned to explore nearby attractions, with easy access to dining, entertainment, and cultural venues.Rooms & Bathrooms
The rooms at The Prince Hotel offer a place to relax in style by blending raw timber furnishings with soft pastel tones. The Boutique Rooms are cozy and compact, perfect for solo travelers, while the Deluxe Rooms provide more space with queen or king beds and private ensuites. Superior Rooms and Corner Suites feature balconies with views over Fitzroy Street and Port Phillip Bay. The Premier Suite has a spacious layout with distinct areas for relaxation and entertainment, complete with dual bathrooms. The hotel's bathrooms have marble or tiles; some rooms have a bathtub, while others have showers.Amenities
The Prince Hotel has various dining and entertainment options, like the Prince Public Bar and Little Prince Wine. The Prince Bandroom is a legendary music venue that has hosted iconic performances over the decades, with acts like Prince and Nick Cave having performed here in the past. Even today, it offers a vibrant nightlife experience and top international acts. There's no swimming pool or spa, but the hotel's venues and lively atmosphere make up for it, particularly for music lovers.Family-Friendliness
The Prince Hotel welcomes families, with children of any age allowed to stay. However, children aged 13 and above are charged as adults. While no baby cribs are available, extra beds can be requested for an additional fee, making it a flexible option for families traveling with older children. There's also an elevator, making it accessible for those with strollers.Like what you see?
