Traveling to Costa Rica, Spain, or Portugal?! Let's make it happen!
π¨π· πͺπΈ π΅πΉ
Having worked as a former flight attendant, I had the privilege of traveling to numerous countries. My twin brother, naturally, became my steadfast travel companion. From exploring castles, basking at the many beaches, and eating delicious food in the Iberian Peninsula countries of Spain and Portugal to venturing into Costa Rica, rich in biodiversity, I've had the opportunity to immerse myself in diverse cultures, savor new culinary delights, and connect with people from all walks of life.
What places and activities do you specialize in?
"π¨π· Costa Rica π π΄ π¦₯
Costa Rica has memories of volcanoes, jungles, and beaches! It is truly the best place to do all things outdoors and adventure! My first mountain biking experience was near Arenal Volcano, which had stunning views of Arenal Lake! It was challenging but worth it! I will happily plan your perfect adventurous and outdoorsy experience, relaxing beach time, or a combo of both!
πͺπΈ Spain π π·
My Iberian roots have led me back to Portugal and Spain, countries I love. Among the most unforgettable moments were a road trip to scenic mountain villages and exploring castles in remote towns. I've been fortunate to experience Spain's stunning mountains, tranquil Mediterranean coastlines, and rich history. Spain genuinely encapsulates enchantment, charm, and boundless adventure. I'm excited to start planning your trip to Spain!
π΅πΉ Portugal π° π
Lagos (the Algarve region) in southern Portugal has one of the most beautiful coastlines, with picturesque views of the rock formations of Ponta da Piedade and Benagil Cave! I have many memories of running the cliff trails with my brother and the Atlantic Ocean in the background! It is truly a stunning and beautiful region! I look forward to planning your perfect adventure in Portugal!"
How did you get involved in travel?
"Growing up my family loved to travel and go on road trips! One favorite memory from my time in Spain involves a family road trip. We loved the small villages perched on cliffs, explored countryside castles and villages, and savored the best paella in Valencia. Seville, one of my favorite cities, captivated me with its rich history and visually stunning architecture. The abundance of sites and buildings in Seville left me in awe, all contributing to the core memories of Spain!"
Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.
"During an exciting adventure, I participated in a hike along the hanging bridges of Monteverde. Our guide pointed out a family of monkeys, navigating from tree to tree, and to my surprise, they eventually joined us on the bridges. Dozens of these playful monkeys walked and climbed alongside me, creating a truly memorable experience."

I did not have much time to plan the trip but when I reached out to kim kim, everything was planned for me. The trip was exactly what I wanted and took all of my preferences and wishes into account.
I visited incredible rain forests and cloud forests and had such fun and knowledgeable guides for each one. I love nature and wanted to see the interesting wild life and birds of the country and that is precisely what I did. There was not a single national park or tour that I did not enjoy. I am really lucky to have had this experience and it was unforgettable.
The peaceful walks through different forests, the views of waterfalls and volcanoes, the flora and fauna that I had previously only heard about in documentaries β the trip of a lifetime!
Hotel Reviews
The rooms are set in a garden with trees and plants that attract birds and even a basilisk. I sat on my patio and watched a hummingbird feeding from the flowers of the tree in front of me.
Authenticity & Character
The gardens that allowed you to wander around the hotel and enjoy the setting
Hotel & Spa Poco a Poco
Monteverde
The hotel is designed in such a way that it feels like it is not busy and full of other people. There are little gardens around corners and even a long walking path through a forest to enjoy
Authenticity & Character
The hotel felt peaceful and I enjoyed the gardens and the walking trail
KarahΓ© Beach Hotel
Manuel Antonio
The hotel is situated with a beautiful beach that you can access by walking down the path. I spent many hours just walking on the sand listening to the waves.
The lady at reception was also extremely helpful, making many calls for me when I made a mistake and missed my transport.
Location
Direct access to a beautiful beach.
Staff
The lady at reception really went out of her way to help me, making many calls on my behalf despite it not being her responsibility to do so. I am so grateful to her for her help and kindness.

Private Isla Damas Kayaking Adventure
Manuel Antonio
This is such a unique and special way to experience the mangroves. The water is calm and the roots of the trees on either shore make such intricate patterns. My guides, DK and Roberto, were so patient with me and so interesting. I was also really fortunate as they spotted a silky anteater in the tree - the smallest anteater species in the world.
Quality of Experience
It gave a really unique view of the mangroves
Guides, Drivers and Staff
They put me at ease and calmed me immediately and made the whole experience fun and interesting
Transport
Easy and timely. I was also told about the customs and the places we were driving past on the way to mangrove.
Private: Arenal Hanging Bridges Guided Walk
Arenal/La Fortuna
The setting is beautiful and you get some really striking views from the hanging bridges.
Quality of Experience
The experience was excellent, however, as noted, there were many crowds of tourists.
Guides, Drivers and Staff
The guide was interesting and knew the right areas to stop to look for specific birds and frogs.
Cloud Forest Hike in Juan Castro Blanco National Park
Arenal/La Fortuna
The hike was through some amazing cloud forest. There were incredible views and we stopped at the various refreshing waterfalls. I loved our guide, who was very passionate about his forest and the flora and fauna that you find there. He was patient and even helped me cross the stream (Read here that I held onto his shoulder as I didn't want to slip on the rocks and I don't know how he even managed to move with me holding on like that!) It was a peaceful and quiet walk surrounded by the trees and forest plants.
Food
We ordered the food before the hike and it was ready for us when we got back. The lunch was very good and it was service with a smile!
Guides, Drivers and Staff
The passion for the cloud forest and the interesting details and history made it a wonderful experience for me.
Private: Children's Eternal Rainforest Guided Hike
Monteverde
I love the intimate setting of walking through the rain forest. My guide, Danny, was very knowledgeable and made the experience fun and interesting. He was excellent at spotting creatures and showing them to me through his scope. We counted the different bird species we spotted and he even sent me the list at the end, to keep as a memory.
Guides, Drivers and Staff
Everyone was pleasant and friendly and helpful.
Transport
Easy and on time. A calm and pleasant drive
Private: Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve Guided Hike
Monteverde
The cloud forest is such a unique ecosystem. My guide, Greivin, was very good at spotting beautiful birds... as well as impressive tarantulas!

Private Cloud Forest Night Walk
Monteverde
Seeing the forest at night gives a different perspective to the day walks. We were lucky to see two different types of frog as well as some very well camouflaged insects, such as the leaf insect (which looked so much like a dead leaf that my guide, Chris, had to point it out four times before I actually realised what I was looking at) and a stick insect. I think that the highlight was probably seeing a spectral bat which flew past us - it was a really huge bat with a wide wingspan - very impressive.

Private: Manuel Antonio Park Guided Hike
Manuel Antonio
Manuel Antonio Park has 5 different types of ecosystems in one park, so you get the opportunity to see many different creatures. My guide Ariel made me feel like one of the family and we were so lucky with the animals and birds we spotted. This was an excellent place to see both 2 toed and 3 toed sloths, as well as playful squirrel monkeys. Perhaps the highlight of the hike was seeing the potoo - This bird was sitting next to a stick and holds its head upwards in such a way that it too, looks just like the stick. Wow!
Guides, Drivers and Staff
The guide was able to take some amazing pictures through his scope using my phone. Perfect memories

But we still talk about how amazing our trip to Costa Rica was and all the amazing memories we made there. Our trip was very well planned, we loved all of our accommodations and excursions. We personally got a little zealous about how much we could do at a time, and didn't realize how much travel there would be to some of the excursions, but that was on us. We wish we would have spent some more down time at the amazing resorts, but other than that our trip was perfect and all the recommendations from Kim Kim were great! I would highly recommend their service to other people and we will definitely be using them again in the future. Every single shuttle/transportation service was excellent and every person we encountered on our trip was super friendly and welcoming. Everything was on time and all the tours and guides were super knowledgeable and fascinating. We saw all types of animals and wild life. KimKims flexibility in building your itinerary is great and it was the perfect level of assistance while also making it super personal to you. Thank you for a great trip!!!

Arenas del Mar Resort
Manuel Antonio
This was our favorite hotel on our trip. I was blown away by the ocean views when we arrived and were taken up to the lobby. The property is stunning and cozy. The entire staff is amazing and by the time we left we were sad to go. They had great amenities, the food was excellent, the views were incredible, and they have their own private beach access. It was a perfect mix of luxury but also felt intimate and familiar. We saw so many wild animals on the property and the staff went out of their way to make sure we got a chance to witness the wild life. We did yoga which was amazing, and when we called for a ride, the response was almost immediate. We cannot recommend this property enough.
Staff

They made the experience personal and special and guided us to jump off the cliffs in a once in a lifetime experience. Cannot recommend enough.

Arenal Volcano Hike & EcoTermales Hot Springs Visit
Arenal/La Fortuna
This was difficult to execute well because it was 2 very different activities merged into one. We were unable to complete the volcano hike because of extreme rain and lightning. We started the hike, but only proceeded to get drenched and muddy before turning around to go back to the bus. The rain made it impossible to even see anything beyond the path below our feet. The guide told the agency we canceled the tour, although the elements (lightening) made it unsafe to continue the hike. The guide was not proactive about guiding for this trip - he was basically an escort. We then sat in traffic in our wet clothes on the bus before arriving at the hot springs resort, only to learn that we couldn't enter the facility until our previously scheduled arrival time. We waited in the lobby there for 30 minutes. Would not recommend these 2 tours together. I'm sure the volcano hike is amazing though!
The hot springs were incredible. Highly recommend those to everyone. Food buffet was great there too.
Quality of Experience
Amazing hot springs resort. Less amazing hike experience.

This was our first trip with KimKim. Some highlights:
- Trip planning was super easy and they were very flexible to match our needs
- Hotel locations and hotels themselves were excellent. In both cities, the hotels were an easy walk from all the places we wanted to go and close to restaurants/shopping/public transport
- the guided tours in Barcelona and Seville were fantastic. Special shout out to Noah in Barcelona for the food tour. It was just the two of us with Noah and honestly it felt like we spent the evening with a good friend. Our other tour guides Alexi in Barcelona as well as Miguel and Mariam in Seville were excellent as well.
- due to some internal miscommunication within KimKim, our tour for the Alcazar was not booked. They let us know, refunded our money and offer another complimentary tour with Mariam which was excellent
- prearranged transportation is a huge value add as landing in a foreign country and not knowing the language makes navigating public transport challenging. On our return, the pickup was at 4 am and we were grateful for the prearranged ride
- The call with our planner Adam prior the trip was very valuable as he ran through the itinerary and answered common questions (how much cash do we need to carry, how much to tip, what type of weather to expect etc)
Downsides:
- The missed tour of the Alcazar though handled well, was a big miss. It is one of the marquis attractions in Seville and one that we will likely not see again
- Most of the tours are available from TripAdvisor or Viator at lower cost BUT the trip planning and co-ordination needs a lot of prep work if you do it your self

Appreciated all our guides and their passion for the history and culture of a nation who once claimed ownership of more than half the known world.
