Adam Warszawski

During three years of my Icelandic adventure, I had a chance to visit countless unique places around Iceland, both famous spots and hidden gems. Iceland never ceases to fascinate me!

I believe our holidays are the most valuable part of the year, as it's our precious free time. Each of us has diverse needs and prefers different traveling style. I always keep it in mind while I`m planning the trip.

What places and activities do you specialize in?

"Tailor-made trips all around Iceland, both self-drive and guided tours. Hiking, nature and all kind of adventures are my specialties. I will be more than happy to share with you everything I know about Iceland."

How did you get involved in travel?

"Traveling became my passion quite unexpectedly. During my student years, I decided to hitchhike to Spain because I couldn't afford any regular way of transportation. I soon understood it's one of the best ways to meet locals! My inside adventurer woke up, asking for more and more travel, so I went to the Balkans, Caucasus, Siberia, Mongolia, China, Middle East, Central Asia, Iceland and much more.

My passion naturally evolved into a profession. I'd been working in hotel industry, I became a guide book author and tour leader.
Today, I'm pleased to compose customized trip plans for travelers coming to Iceland."

Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.

"The first day of Meradalir eruption (August 2022). We went there spontaneously, just to see the new volcanic eruption during its first hours. The ground was shaking, fresh lava was filling the valley... We could feel the heatwaves on our faces watching this unbelievable show of creation . The most hypnotizing experience in my life. Rough and beautiful!"

This is my 3rd trip with Kim Kim and I am definitely a fan! Will be consulting them for my next trip without a doubt.

Activity Review
Rye Bread tour (Geothermal bakery)
Iceland

The "bakery tour" was a fun activity and I would highly recommend a visit to the spa and brief presentation about traditional geothermal baking, but I would keep expectations realistic for the depth of the tour. We did not tour a bakery, but witnessed a guide pulling a pot out of the ground and then serving us the bread. On the one hand it was nice that it was just a brief spiel and demo by a friendly presenter, (especially in the windy rain outside), with a tasting as the main event, but if you're looking for something more in-depth about history, baking, or science, this isn't it. Not sure how much the tour is since it was booked for us, but I think I might be happy with a meal at the café and a visit to the spa. It was a great change of pace from driving and waterfalls, though, and the bread was delicious! At this time of year, there were 2 times available, 11:45 and 2:30, so take that into account with what else you want to do that day. We enjoyed the tomato greenhouse cafe and educational space about 40 min. from the bakery after the tour.

Quality of Experience
More depth to the tour, maybe a peek at the actual bakery, something more immersive--experience with the baking?, more history about baking in this way and the place of bread and rye and geothermal water in Icelandic cuisine. That said, it was enjoyable for what it was. The brevity might be especially appropriate for families with kids or itineraries with several other things on it for the day.

Friendly and clear
Transport
Just a short walk to the site where the bread is buried.

As the other person in this trip I figured I should chime in as well. Adam was fantastic! We committed the cardinal sin of travel and didn’t research very much. It didn’t matter because Adam did that for us. He was on top of everything. Very easy to get a hold of and even helped while we were in our trip and had to make last minute changes due to weather. Adam was great. I’d work with him again! Thanks Adam!

Our trip to Iceland was absolutely amazing, thanks to Adam and the KimKim team, who helped us plan the adventure of a lifetime. We embarked on a clockwise tour around Iceland, beginning with a few nights in Reykjavík. We enjoyed a fantastic food tour and a relaxing visit to the Sky Lagoon before setting off on our journey.

As we traveled north, we were in awe of Iceland's stunning landscapes—it's truly beyond words. One of the highlights was our Siberian Husky cart ride in Lake Mývatn with SnowDogs. Learning about the history of the area and the loving care given to these beautiful dogs was an incredible experience.

Continuing north, we loved our time at the Vök Baths and our stay at Hotel 1001 Nótt, which would be an ideal spot for viewing the Northern Lights—unfortunately, it was too overcast during our visit. Black Diamond Beach was an absolute must-see. Adam's recommendation to explore both the beach and the bay was invaluable, and seeing the icebergs on the shore was an unforgettable sight.

Hotel Vík was perfectly located and offered excellent amenities. Our final two excursions were incredible. The Katla Ice Cave Tour with our guide, Frederico, was fantastic—his knowledge of the ice caves, Iceland's history, and glaciers made us feel very comfortable and informed. The final highlight was snorkeling at Silfra. Wow—what a once-in-a-lifetime experience! It took a moment to adjust to the dry suits, but it was worth it.

We also spent a night at the Golden Circle Domes. While we expected a glamping experience, we forgot to inquire about heating and ran out of firewood in the middle of the night. Fortunately, the down comforters provided kept us warm, but if you stay there, be sure to grab extra firewood on your way.

Overall, this trip was a dream come true, and we highly recommend it!

The geodesic dome was less than impressive and I would not recommend that. Lack of heat caused me to get the chills several times over the evening, resulting in me getting a cold. Luckily the end of the trip!

Maybe a better reference for the summer.

The costs of everything was unexpected.; shame on me for not understanding that ahead of the trip. I must say that the food was better than anticipated !

Great experience. One cannot possibly see all the country has to offer in a week. Our self guided travels took us from Akreyri in the north toward the eastern coast and back to Reykjavik. Without mentioning all places, we visited glaciers, waterfalls, seaports, geysers from a distance, and beautiful murals in Reykjavik. It was an extremely well organized
tour, and although there were a few glitches, all went well.

We appreciated how he put together a trip that was geared for us and not just for anyone going to Iceland. He offered several options for us, and we did several of them and enjoyed every one of them. The hotel accomodations were perfect and the breakfasts were wonderful. I'm glad he included one rather unconventional type of lodging that let us experience a differnt style of overnight that included a very interesting film about a local soccer player. He did run it by us before making the reservation so we would know it was a tad different. Great way to end our evening. Our last night accomodations in Reykevik were in a perfect location - close enough to walk to some fun local spots, and a short drive to the airport. Adam also made sure we had the perfect rental car for driving on the roads in the northwestern area and in the mountains.

We had a great and memorable trip and want to thank Adam for arranging it. In particular, he and Michele were very quick to respond when an airline flight cancellation delayed our arrival by one day. All of our reservations in Iceland worked out perfectly, and the recommended stops were well chosen.

The car rental was also trouble free and comfortable (Kia Sportage). We actually never used the WiFi device because we had continuous cell coverage everywhere (ATT). We did struggle a bit with the driving plans as rendered through Google and Apple Carplay. This combination got easily confused in its sequencing if we deviated slightly from the plan, requiring frequent reloading of the map. Having a map point for each of the suggested stops would help a lot to simplify things.

We also have a few specific highlights and suggestions for future consideration:

Landmannalaugar: We followed the Google drive plan to road F26, which is well travelled, and then were told to make a sharp right onto F208, which at that point appears rarely travelled and likely impassable without a high-clearance vehicle. The Google course line also followed F225 for part of the drive ,which our plans says to avoid. It was getting late in the day and rather than risk getting stuck we chose to backtrack to Highway 1. A much better solution in this area would be to include a series of GPS turn points, rather than depend on Google.

Hella to Vik: we really enjoyed Gluggafoss, which had hardly any other tourists. In contrast, Seljalandffoss was mobbed with people, and was in shadow when we arrived. However there is an equally nice waterfall facing Highway 1 just a few km to the east, with hardly any people (on a small pull-out). We also stopped at Eyjafjallajokul Bakery on the highway for lunch; they have good sandwiches and plenty of parking and a WC.

Vik to Hofn: closer to Vik we found the “moss heath” very interesting (thick moss growing on basalt). We also liked the glacial lagoon and Diamond Beach. Hofn may once have been the lobster capital of Iceland it’s not anymore. Harvesting was recently prohibited due to over-fishing. We had a nice dinner at Otto’s but lobster was not on the menu. The hotel in Hofn was fine but oddly configured–no elevator, and you have to carry your bags up one flight of stairs and then down another, even if your room is on the ground floor. The staff does offer to do it for you however.

Hofn to Egilsstadir: As a geologist I found the Blabjorg green ignimbrite very interesting. I would suggest a slight modification of the descriptive text, to emphasize its origin from glowing hot clouds of ash, broken rock fragments, and gases that rushed down the slope of a volcano. This is similar to what covered Pompei in 79 AD. Petra’s stone museum was also interesting for its very large and diverse collection.

Some of the recommended restaurants in Egilsstadir were closed, but the hotel restaurant was quite good. We also visited the Hallormsstadur forest south of town. This was a nice contrast to the other areas, and we enjoyed taking a short hike on the trails through the trees.

Egilsstadir to Lake Myvatn: This was our favorite area due to the varied volcanic landscape. You might add to the description of the Grjotagj spring that it is inside a lava tube! We also liked the Krafla geothermal area and crater and the Dimmuborgir lava towers. Hotel Laxa was our favorite hotel of the trip; we had beautiful picture-window views of the surrounding landscape from our room. We were also lucky to see a nice display of Northern Lights.

The private volcanic tour near Husavik was excellent; our guide Gunnar was extremely knowledgeable and pleasant. He is a local native and we liked getting to know a real Icelander! We also visited Dettifoss but the water was very muddy, making for a less appealing brown waterfall.

Lake Myvatn to Laugarbakki: Godafoss waterfall was one of our favorites. This drive also crossed a lot of very dramatic glacial landforms such as U-shaped valleys in the mountains. Hotel Laugarbakki looks a bit run-down from the outside but the interior looked like it has been freshly renovated. We had a very nice 2-room suite. Our second-favorite hotel.

Laugarbakki to Reykjavik: The hotel was fine aside from some traffic noise (room facing the street). Its location was perfect however, and we had a nice dinner a block away at Garazie Trattoria. The helicopter tour was fantastic! We also visited Sky Lagoon and enjoyed it despite the cold 65 kph wind gusting over the water. A nice end-point to the trip and a chance to relax before the flight home.
