My name is Caterina, and I am a Travel Designer at Your Custom Journey.
I was born in a small village in Calabria, located in the very southern region of Italy, and at the age of 19, I moved to Pisa, Tuscany, where I graduated in Foreign Languages. Throughout my journey, I have had the opportunity to work and live in some of Italy’s most iconic cities, including Pisa, Florence, and Venice, finally settling in the Roman countryside in 2020.
As a traveler, I am filled with enthusiasm and curiosity, and I love to explore new cultures and realities with their unique art, traditions, colors, smells, and flavors.
During my travels, I love to connect with locals, seeking information regarding hidden gems, traditions, curiosities, local crafts, and of course, local cuisine and wine. I am a foodie!
Every journey leaves me with additional baggage, not a physical one to be checked in, but instead, one filled with unforgettable experiences, memories, and new knowledge that enrich my soul and heart, making me feel like a child again.
I would love to be your local Italian friend and share with you my passion for travel and above all, for my beloved Country, a place whose art, cultures, and heterogeneous traditions await to be discovered, from South to North.
Your trip to Italy will be an immersion in a vibrant canvas of a thousand shades, and my primary goal will be to provide you with the right palette of colors to paint it.

Our recent trip to Italy, under Caterina at KimKim, was one of the best travel experiences we have ever had. Caterina was very flexible in helping us to tailor the trip to our specific needs and wants. As we know Rome quite well, we chose to start our trip with a self-planned stay in Rome. Day 2 is where the team at KimKim took over and it was seamless from start to finish. Everyone who met us along the way to take us to a station/hotel/restaurants/private tour/airport etc over the remaining 9 days of our trip, were all very professional, friendly and helpful. Because KimKim use local people, it was also wonderful to get a truly local tour with deep local knowledge of the area, even when we were just transferring from one hotel to another. In addition 2 of our guides were able to make great restaurants suggestions that meant we ended up lunching in very special places, that we would never have known about.
Italy is without doubt one of the world's most beautiful countries and Sorrento and the Amalfi coast did not disappoint - however it was the people that we met along the way that elevated the experience even further; So, a big thank you to Beatrice (Rome), Francesca (Naples), Pepe (driver Naples - Sorrento), Gianni (private tour of Pompeii), Manfredi (private speed boat for the day around Capri and islands), Massimmo (tour of local towns) and Carmine (driver to Naples airport).
The hotels that Catrina chose for us were also incredible: The 2nd leg of our trip was at the Grand Hotel Royal, Sorrento. It is the epitome of classic 'Italian Rivera' elegance, with amazing views from our room and all the terraces across the ocean to Mount Vesuvius, with the occasional cruise liner on view. The staff were very professional and courteous. The hotel is dressed beautifully, with classic Italian decor throughout, good food and great bar service. The hotel had a kind of magical quality with it's unique outdoor lift that descends through the rock to a private beach/pontoon area right on the water's edge. Whilst very quiet and you feel you are away from it all, it is also a short walk into Sorrento old town, where there are many shops, and great restaurants and bars.
The 3rd leg of our trip was at Fuore Grand Hotel, Amalfi Coast. WOW. A contemporary and exceptional hotel that made us feel that we were in a dream. All I can say is if you are looking for a base to explore the Amalfi coast and to feel that you have escaped the 'ordinary world', then stay here - you will not be disappointed! We didn't want to leave! Thank you to the team at FGH. We miss you!

Grand Hotel Royal Sorrento
Sorrento
The epitome of classic Italian Rivera elegance. The hotel, garden terraces and restaurants have amazing views across the ocean to Mount Vesuvius, with the occasional cruise ship on view in the bay. The hotel is beautifully dressed throughout in classic Italian decor. The rooms are classic, super comfy beds, very clean and well appointed with lots of storage and superb views. The hotel offers a good range of food, although somewhat limited but the food, especially breakfast and service was excellent and the bar staff very attentive. Overall the hotel has a magical/nostalgic quality, especially with it's outdoor lift that descends from the upper terraces down through the rock to a private beach/pontoon, right on the water's edge. Whilst the hotel is located on a road, it is quiet and you feel away 'from it all'. Yet the hotel is a short walk into Sorrento old town and so shopping and dining out for lunch and dinner is an easy option, with an abundance of local restaurants and bars offering authentic local cuisine. We loved staying here!

Location
Whilst the hotel is located centrally, it is quiet and you feel away 'from it all'. The hotel is a short walk into Sorrento old town and so shopping and dining out for lunch and dinner is an easy option, with an abundance of local restaurants and bars offering authentic local cuisine.
Staff
The bar staff (a young lady) was particularly good - however everyone at the hotel was professional and courteous.

Furore
Fuore Grand Hotel, Amalfi Coast. WOW. A contemporary and exceptional hotel that made us feel that we were in a dream. We didn't want to leave! Thank you to the team at FGH. We miss you!
The hotel is contemporary and chic, understated enough to allow the stunning valley, views and natural surroundings to sing. The decor throughout is simple and elegant with great attention to detail using local materials and patterns, bringing warmth to the experience.
The food at FGH is also exceptional; the breakfast alone is a wonder but the jewel in the crown, is the fine-dining experience. It is not hard to understand why the hotel/chef was awarded a Michelin star within 3 months of the hotel opening.
Authenticity & Character
The hotel is contemporary and chic, understated enough to allow the stunning valley, views and natural surroundings to sing. The decor throughout is simple and elegant with great attention to detail using local materials and patterns, bringing warmth to the experience. The food and wine is authentic and local, but delivered with contemporary flair.
Location
The hotel is fairly remote which means you need to hire a private driver and / or take the hotel shuttle service - however this is one of the best bits about this hotel, as when you are there you feel that you have escaped it all, yet it is accessible to explore all the best towns and villages in the area.
Staff
The staff at FHG could not do enough for us!
Cleanliness & Comfort
Spotless, and well maintained throughout our stay.

I'm sure I couldn't have done this trip without the help of Caterina and the other guides. There are certain things I would have done differently, however had I known, and which might be useful for other travellers in the situation of pushing a wheelchair. We almost didn't go to Venice but it was actually much easier in Venice than Florence to get around. I would not go to Florence with a wheelchair again. I would also choose and bring a wheelchair with me and not rent. The one that was rented was very small and difficult both to push and for my mom to sit in. The third thing I would do is to rent 3 double rooms and not 2 triples. We rented the triples as a money saver but it resulted in my mom being in a cot in many places which is okay for a child but not for the elderly. The car and driver were very helpful in many places but at other times we really didn't need them to sit for hours while we were in a museum or even to transport us a few blocks to the museum. It was great for driving around to viewpoints though. All of the tour guides were very flexible, helpful and knowledgeable. I also appreciated having the contact of Roberta at all times which I haven't experienced on previous KimKim trips. Svetlana in Como was relaxed and flexible which allowed us to have some time to just look around. Beatrice was indispensable for getting in and out of Venice smoothly. Alessia, in Venice made the trip for 11 year old Katie, with the costume she brought and the effort she went to to engage her. Alesia's dad even helped taking photos and walking us to a restaurant. They were both so warm and friendly. Cecelia blew our mind pushing the wheelchair around and ensuring my mom's comfort. The driver in Verona was also amazing. Both of them made our stay in Verona our favourite stop on our trip. Barbara in Milano, was super fun and also great at engaging Katie. We had the trip of a lifetime and made unforgettable memories with my mom, whose life long dream of visiting the homeland of her grandparents was finally realized.

Staff
The staff at the rooftop lounge were fantastic with my mom - so helpful and kind but the staff at the front desk were useless and didn't seem to have any idea what was going on. We spent hours trying to find a workable solution for my mom. They put us in two rooms with two beds one of which had stairs inside the room and the other of which was up stairs to get to the room. There was a narrow ramp that was okay for luggage but not for a human in a wheelchair.
Cleanliness & Comfort
The cot they brought in was dirty and not level and when we complained , they argued that it was fine.

The entire trip was incredible, from Rome to Florence to the gorgeous golf resort, Castelfalfi! Beatrice met us at the airport and gave us so much assistance, navigating us through the busy terminal. First class service all the way. A special treat was our tour guide Gianluca, who was constantly telling us little tidbits about the city as we traveled on his golf cart tour. He captured great pictures of us around the city in various locations. Our day at Marco Simone Golf Course and Club was fabulous. The staff there attended to our every need. Beatrice led us to the train station and didn’t leave us until we were on our train. In Florence, we were met by Ms Lucia who led us to our new hotel in the heart of Florence. Our tour guide there, gave us a great three hour tour thru the city, visiting Michaelango’s David along the way. When it was time to leave Florence we were driven to the Castelfalfi resort. A little glitch with the transportation arose, but the hotel notified us there would be a fifteen minute delay, due to an emergency car repair. A new driver promptly arrived and led us thru the Chianti region as we went on a wine tasting tour and led to a fabulous lunch where we met a world famous butcher as he prepared each cut of meat we would taste! Lunch was superb and then we landed at the best resort ever. Castelfalfi not only had a great golf course, it was one of the best places we’ve ever stayed. The views from our room and from the patio and pools were breathtaking.
An amazing trip!! Kimkim delivered quality service. There were no unanswered questions and someone by our side as we traveled to our final destination- Amalfi. They even arranged our destination to coordinate with family members, so we would all arrive at the second week of our trip at the same time. I highly recommend kimkim to anyone traveling outside the country!!

We were disappointed in Arezzo as it was Sunday, as the shops were closed, and churches had morning mass. We did not make it to Cortona.
GPS was amazing, could not have driven the routes without it, although a few times, it directed us in one way city centers! It was also a little confusing on where to drop the car off at the Rome train station.
In retrospect, we should have stayed in Rome one additional day as there is so much to see.
Thank you again.
