Ever since I can remember I have been traveling around the world which made my academic and professional choices quite easy - Tourism!
I have been working in the industry for the past 12 years which led to my new recent project - Across Portugal! Alongside with Pedro, my partner, we inaugurated this new Travel Agency aiming to become one of the main references when visiting Portugal.

How did you get involved in travel?

"I was lucky enough to start traveling since I was a Kid. Those experiences led to a huge interest in this industry.
Travel is much more than visiting new places or meeting new people. It is all about the experience, the authenticity as well as the local immersion.
Based on this, and since Tourism is a business from People to People, I have always believed I could contribute by helping people to visit Portugal.
Across Portugal was born from this believe!"

A very special experience. Walk into the beautiful lobby and take in the charm of this “once home”, now hotel. Have your welcome drink on the terrace overlooking the ocean . Use your Portuguese to chat with friendly staff. Enjoy the view from your spacious room. Take a short walk through the lovely streets of Estoril before heading down to the water. The food here is excellent, so be sure to have a special dinner there.

Our guide was a young woman named Anna. Her passion for history was evident through her knowledge and enthusiasm. She guided us through different areas of Lisbon and took us to historical places as well as the best views via elevators. The tour ended with a delightful wine tasting and sampling of cheeses and hams. This was only for us. The wine expert talked about some different wines from Portugal, especially its vinho verde. Of course we bought one.

Our driver took us up narrow, winding roads to a restaurant that is famous for Fados. We enjoyed a very nice meal, good wines, and were treated to a performance of guitar and singing. The songs were often about the sea and of course love. I especially loved the guitars.

We had a lovely evening visiting the farm of Mariana and Inez. Their family has had this farm for many years and all work to keep it going. Our cooking class with Inez was a real highlight of the trip. With her guidance, we four prepared a 3 course meal. We all took part in the creation of a meal fit for a king. After the meal was ready, Inez and Mariana set the dining room table and served us the meal we had prepared. It was a wonderful experience.

Once we were in Portugal, everything went like clockwork. We had a walking tour of Lisbon with Anna, who had lots of history and contemporary information to share with us. Our driver, Carlos, was with us several times during the trip and we had lots of opportunities to learn about his country from him. We felt safe in his hands and enjoyed his company. He also gave us good suggestions for places to eat.
Another highlight of the trip was our cooking lesson in Tavira with Inez and Mariana. We loved visiting their farm and learning to cook cataplana and other delicious traditional Portuguese dishes. We wished we had more time to explore Tavira. It is a much smaller town than the other places we stayed.
João checked in with us each day to tell us what to expect and make sure all was going well. He rebooked a cancelled boat excursion before we even knew it happened! The joys of having an in-country travel agent!
In sum, I highly recommend Across Portugal, João in particular, to help you plan and execute a magnificent vacation in beautiful Portugal!!!

This hotel is unusual for us. We stayed in the minimalist rooms and enjoyed the care with which they were furnished and decorated. The balcony was an enjoyable place to relax. We loved the restaurant and the wellness drinks on offer! Dinner was excellent as were the breakfasts. The beauty of Casa Mae is also outside of their buildings. The garden is a centerpiece, even in February and the pools look enchanting, although it wasn’t warm enough for us to be tempted.

Quite unusual compound of buildings and gardens. All renovated with care and creativity.

The hotel has a great location inside the historic wall on a hill above the center of town. It was an easy walk to the water, shops, and restaurants and it was very quiet at night.

Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Solange, Barbara and Candela stand out.

In a minimalist room a traveler must work a bit to keep things tidy. Each day the housekeeper would have everything in order for us!

It survived the earthquake of 1755 and is a gorgeous building. Lots of space.

Tavira seems like a cozy small town. The pousada is at the top of a hill next to a beautiful garden.

This gorgeous small hotel was the best of the best. The staff makes every effort to help you feel at home and every detail was considered in planning and decorating. Every where you look you find something beautiful. The restaurant was excellent and the location was convenient to everything we wanted. The terrace overlooking the water was unforgettable. Nothing better than sitting there, sipping a drink and watching the waves.

This was our favorite experience of the whole trip. These families are working hard to create a sustainable organic farm, raise their children and earn a living. They are so proud of their home, their property and products. It was an inspiring evening. We had a great time cooking and chatting and eating.

All of the hotels were perfect for us, the drivers were professional and on time, and the experiences were well chosen and organized. All of the hotels were perfect for us, the drivers were professional and on time, and the experiences were well chosen and organized. There were a couple of minor glitches, including one tour guide who failed to take us to a port tasting, but travel is never about perfection. It is about caring people who do their best to provide a wonderful experience. And that is by and large what we got. We all feel like we got to experience some of the real Portugal: the kind people (including João himself), the amazing landscapes (Lagos, Portimao, the Douro River Valley) and fun activities (tile painting in Lisbon, port tasting and bridge climb in Porto, the convent hotel in Evora, the palace hotel in Cascais, e-bike rides on Lisbon and Cascais, farm and winery visits in the Alentejo and Douro). Put Portugal on your bucket list, and the planning in João's hands; you will not be disappointed! Thank you again João!

Joao did an incredible job planning our trip to Portugal. The communication thru the WhatsApp was great! When our flights to Lisbon got cancelled and everyone in our group ended up landing the next day at different times Joao made sure that everyone was picked up when they landed. Taking the stress off of us at that point was greatly appreciated. When our flights to Lisbon got cancelled and everyone in our group ended up landing the next day at different times Joao made sure that everyone was picked up when they landed. Taking the stress off of us at that point was greatly appreciated. Joao also sent us a message every day letting us know our schedule for the next day and what time the driver would be at the hotel to pick us up. The drivers were all very informative and professional. I would definitely recommend them to drive as I would not want to drive in Portugal. All of our excursions were fun, but I think the one that everyone liked the most was the visit to the Quinta da Pacheca winery. Our tour guide Fabio was great, and we learned a lot about port wine. The boat excursion thru the Douro valley was beautiful and they held the boat for us because our lunch at the winery took longer than expected. When they tell you that the trip is all about you, they mean it. They all went out of their way to make sure that we saw everything we wanted to see and try all of the local food and drinks. I really enjoyed all of the places that we stayed as well. Joao did a great job of putting us in the middle of the city in Lisbon & Porto, close to everything that we wanted to do and see. I would highly recommend Joao and his team at KimKim as they made our trip to Portugal very memorable to say the least.

The Cascade Wellness was good, but it didn't quite live up to the five-star rating in our minds, especially after staying at the Monumental Palace. The resort itself was beautiful, but some aspects, like the service and amenities, could be improved. We had some nice staff and some staff that didn't really care about what we were talking about. Also, they had just started adding a tip into your bill at the restaurant / bar but didn't tell you about it. So, if you didn't notice it then and you tipped them, they got double tips. It just would have been nice if they pointed it out.

Quinta da Pacheca was well worth it. Fabio was a great tour guide, and we got to see a group stopping the grapes. Their wine is amazing, and I think everyone should do this tour as the lunch that we had was incredible.

Cleaning staff was insufficient to be rated 5 star, maybe better training to have essential items in room like tissues for our 3 night stay. No extra pillows or blankets. Curtain rods and toilet paper holder were broken from the start of our stay, which we did mention to staff twice.

We really enjoyed this trip. We loved Porto and wish we had more time there and in Cascais. When we had a problem at the Hotel Vila Gale in Cascais, Joao handled it for us. We had a terrific time with our drivers, Ivo and Joao. To note, the car was not clean when we picked it up and we had to clean the windshield in order to see when driving. The apartments were well situated in the center city everything was in walking distance.The only thing was that we traveled with family and had two bedroom apartment. The wood floor was very squeaky and every time we used the bathroom that was also a bit small, made a squeaky sound that might have disturbed some one sleeping in the other bedroom.

Trip was very well planned by Jaoa. All details were well thought out. Ivo and Carlos did a great job in driving us everywhere and providing detailed information about each site including all historical facts. The best part of the trip was cultural immersion by visiting a local fishing village, a small time wine maker, and participating in a cooking class!

Nice place. The first apartment that we were given was not comfortable for two couples. The management changed it for us for the next two days. Nice rustic feeling condos. Breakfast was amazing. Nice fresh salads, juice, cheese, pastries, bread.

Joao created an amazing and memorable trip to Portugal for my multigenerational family. He put together an awesome itinerary that worked well for my wife and I, our two kids, and my elderly parents. Joao planned every detail and was in contact with me throughout the trip to make sure everything was going smoothly. He was always available and always ready to help. We visited Lisbon, Porto, Douro Valley, Algarve, and Cascais. Joao planned many fun experiences for us and the kids. He made the whole experience easy and stress free.
