Paola Imperiali

I was born in the very green heart of Italy, in Perugia, a multiethnic and international city and I was 7 years old during a trip to Africa with my parents that I decided to learn all the languages of the world and travel to every corner of this planet. Not too young maybe but well focused! And so I prepared myself for this mission, at school and at university and around the world. After a degree in languages and a degree in tourism economics I started working with great passion and enthusiasm in my first travel agency. Over the course of my 30 years of experience the small travel agency has become a tour operator and has grown both in the destinations offered and in employed. Me and my business partners are working in harmony since March 2000 in UmbriAction by Ciak Viaggi, promoting Italy as a destination for all those who love art, culture, smiles, happiness and beauty. What keeps us together? The passion for discoveries, for new experiences and new places and the joy of creating unforgettable experience of travelling

What places and activities do you specialize in?

"I live in central Italy and I love my land and my country! would you like me to list some of my favourite destinations or maybe my exciting experiences? Endless Tuscany with its many faces is always new when you get out of beaten tracks; green and unspoiled Umbria with friendly and welcoming people and pure natural colors, unrevealed Marche or maybe never-ending Rome with its astonishing surroundings? Glam places or secret corners? I can't make a ranking; a lot depends on the seasons, the length of your trip, your curiosity and your interests and your expectations, but we can discover all these details together. Would you like to meet local people? Bathe in creeks or secret coves, discover local artists before they become too famous? Taste very limited productions of typical products and fine wines? Admire panoramas from a hot air balloon or from unreachable mountains? Or you prefer a peaceful holiday, with attention to every detail, with all the comforts you've always wanted? A driver with a limo service to enjoy the luxury of ancient residences and exclusive clubs? "

How did you get involved in travel?

"Fabrizio and Susanna and me work together since march 2000 when we met by chance thanks to common friends with the strong determination of creating something different and to give a shape to our dreams. Then, own experience, creativity, passion and love for travelling and discoveries led us to build this tour operator, which is not work but fun and experiences to share"

Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.

"Traveling around the world creates an immense archive of experiences to draw on even in the less cheerful moments. I have dozens of memories to share that friends often ask me to tell but the first that now comes to my mind is a series of wonderful dives I was able to do in tropical seas. I love scuba diving and I've been lucky enough to dive into the warm waters of Malaysia, Belize, Indonesia, Seychelles and more to swim with dozens of huge turtles, or with nurse sharks, or to see a shark point me straight at an island of Malaysia. Than I could talk about the desert, my great passion, as great as the one for the sea. A wonderful trek lasting a few days in the interior valleys of Sinai, in Egypt, where the colors of the rock and sand change during the hours of the day and the welcome of the nomadic peoples of the desert, with music, dance and tea flavored by desert herbs have an unforgettable taste. But then the trek in Perù immediately comes to my mind along the Camino de Inca to discover Machu Pichu. I will never forget when the clouds and fog lift just after dawn to reveal the remains of the city, the amazement is uncontainable. And you can sit on a low wall for hours, until sunset, contemplating the Horizon! Then, I can close this exciting list of memories with the Carnival in Salvador de Bahia....."

Our guides in Bergamo, Verona/Padua, and Mantua were excellent. Our room at the Hotel Spadari (which we requested)in Milan was great as were the breakfasts and staff. We had some anxiety around making sure the train tickets were validated on the day we used them. A few questions:

Our guides in Bergamo, Verona/Padua, and Mantua were excellent. Our room at the Hotel Spadari (which we requested)in Milan was great as were the breakfasts and staff. We had some anxiety around making sure the train tickets were validated on the day we used them. A few questions:
1. What would have been the costs of having someone drive us to the cities vs taking trains plus the $40 round trip cab ride to the station?
2. We loved the opera in Verona and glad we asked about it. Paola didn’t suggest it. We wonder if there were other special events we should have known about.
3. The boat ride was nice but we had to ask the guide to translate. He was very accommodating and came to sit with us on the return leg. (It would have been better to have seen Palladian villas but, perhaps, that wasn’t convenient.)
4. The Indigo hotel was fine (they gave us a libretto and lent us cushions for the opera) but the breakfast was just so-so and they don’t greet at the curb to help with luggage.
5. Your write-up mentions a neighborhood in Verona with artisan workshops. No one seemed to know what it was.

We packed in a lot and enjoyed the trip. We especially enjoyed Turandot at the Arena in Verona and the Scrovegni Chapel in Padua. (We also went from Milan to Varenna and St. Moritz with Viator which was excellent and priced reasonably. )

Hotel Indigo Verona - Grand Hotel Des Arts
Verona

Room a little small. Shower bath a bit hard to get into. No help with luggage at the curb. Hotel was booked by the travel agency so we didn’t get our own IHG points. In addition, we were told breakfast was included and the hotel said we had to pay $12 each for each breakfast. We had to contact Paola to straighten it out. It would have been nice if the hotel had shuttle service to the train station. Taxis are expensive.

Authenticity & Character
Breakfast room was not very elegant.

Hi Margaret and Mitchel!
Thank you for taking the time to review your trip!
I am happy you have appreciated the choice of our guides. It is always important the feedback of our clients-. we always take a lot of care in choosing our partners and it is a pity that during the mini-cruise you didn't have the attention required that I asked at reservation. A "personal" guide/interpeter was supposed to be with you.
At the moment I can't say the price of the whole tour with a private car/driver but...

At the moment I can't say the price of the whole tour with a private car/driver but private transfers are very expensive in Italy. Just to let you have a an idea, the private transfer from Malpensa to your hotel is more than 200USD net to me....
trains are cheaper and also more reliable, punctual! as for the valitation, I have never missed one in my 30 year-long carrer . The validation, as stated in my information paper, for the local trains, can be operated only on the day of the journey.
Then I hope you liked the seats at the Opera
As for your point 5. actually I didn't wrote about an artisan area in Verona. Maybe it is one of the articles of KimKim and I couldn't find it
All the best, Paola

Hotel Reviews
Hotel Della Conciliazione
Rome

The rooms were our nicest of the trip. However, we had an unforgettable experience with one of the managers when one of us accidentally broke a vase in the lobby. This was a very freak thing, and completely accidental, but the manager informed us we’d be responsible for ‘property damage.’ He phoned at 10:15 PM to discuss the issue-we had traveled all day and were both asleep. The issue was eventually resolved, later in the week, with a payment from us. I must suggest not booking this hotel in the future.
