Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Cairns, Transfer to Port Douglas

See where the rainforest meets the ocean on the beaches of Port Douglas

Welcome to the Australian tropics! This morning, you'll arrive in Cairns, where a private driver will meet you for the transfer to your hotel in Port Douglas, a beachfront resort town that's ideal for exploring two nearby UNESCO World Heritage sites: the Great Barrier Reef, the world's largest reef system, and the ancient Daintree Rainforest. There are over two weeks ahead of you where you'll traverse the east coast of Australia, traveling from north to south, but first—check in and relax.

Port Douglas is the ultimate tropical escape, and the rest of the day is yours to enjoy at your pace. Tomorrow, you'll spend the whole day sailing around the reef, and the following day, you'll dive into the rainforest of a national park. That means you can take it slow this afternoon and shake off any jet lag. Visit Four Mile Beach to laze on the golden sands of this palm-fringed crescent beach, then venture into town to browse charming boutiques and dine at al fresco restaurants.

Day 2: Full-Day Mackay Cay Outer Reef Cruise

Full Day Outer Reef Mackay Coral Cay
Spend a full day cruising around the Great Barrier Reef in a luxury vessel

Today, you'll dive into one of the world's great natural wonders with a luxury full-day excursion to the Great Barrier Reef. The world's largest coral reef system counts an incredible diversity of marine life, including over 1,500 species of fish, 30 species of whales and dolphins, and six species of sea turtles. Made up of over 2,900 individual reefs and 900 islands, the protected area spans over 1,430 miles (2,300 km).

Pack your swimsuit and sunscreen and transfer 20 minutes to the Crystalbrook Superyacht Marina to board your luxury catamaran and set sail to Mackay Coral Cay. Once at the protected reef sites, you'll get to dive into the sea and meet colorful fish, sea turtles, rays, and even sharks.

Day 3: Cape Tribulation Aboriginal Rainforest Tour

Your local guide will reveal secrets of the Daintree Rainforest

After a relaxed morning, join a local Aboriginal guide and set off to explore culturally significant sights and local attractions between Port Douglas and Cape Tribulation. You'll step through the UNESCO-listed Daintree Rainforest, and learn about the amazing relationships the Kuku Yalanji people still have with their land.

Gain firsthand insight into Indigenous history, culture, and traditions as you learn about the world's oldest living rainforest and the different foods and medicines found in its ecosystem. See where the rainforest meets the Great Barrier Reef, then stop for a swim at a pristine freshwater stream before returning to Port Douglas for the evening.

Day 4: Full-Day Mossman Gorge Adventure

Mossman Gorge
Look for some of Australia's 78 species of freshwater fish in the Mossman River

Immerse yourself in the rainforest again today with another full-day tour. This one takes you inland to nearby Mossman Gorge, a main gateway to the Daintree National Park. Here, you'll have traditional rainforest boy paint applied and join a traditional Kuku Yalanji smoking ceremony designed to cleanse you of bad spirits and provide protection during your visit. Then, you'll enter the Daintree rainforests, estimated to be more than 135 million years old.

Enjoy an easy 90-minute hike across boardwalks, tracks, and bridges that offer spectacular views of mountains and waterfalls. You'll head to the Mossman River in the afternoon for a unique snorkeling experience, drifting gently downstream while looking at freshwater fish, turtles, butterflies, birds, and the elusive platypus.

Take a dip at Streets Beach, then submerge yourself in culture at the world-class QAGOMA galleries. Stay on after dusk for a Ferris wheel ride on the Wheel of Brisbane, and check out the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) to see if any concerts take your fancy.
