He provided lots of information on the areas we visited, and even worked in some time for me to do some shopping (which is a must). Carlos, our tour guide in El Valle de Anton was friendly and very informative. I liked listening to his history of the area and the evolution of natural landmarks over time, and the preservation ideas being considered for the future. We saw monkeys and sloths in the trees, and lots of beautiful birds. The Golden Frog Inn was my favorite of our accommodations. I tried ceviche for the first time, and I liked it. I tried an electric bike for the first time and after the first mile I wanted to buy one for myself. Whether we were hiking in a forest, on a boat ride, swimming in the blue waters, or walking around town, everything was enjoyable. The catamaran cruise to end the week was perfect - great music, great food, beautiful views, friendly people, and time at the beach. Thank you to KimKim Travel and your partner in Panama, Gapa Travel, for all of your efforts.

Best Western Plus Panama Zen Hotel
Panama City

This hotel was very nice. The decor beautifully reflected the name. It was pretty in all of the common areas, and had all the amenities you would need. The room was spacious and clean. The rooftop bar was convenient for evening cocktails. The rooftop infinity pool was nice, and inviting. The breakfast buffet was plentiful with a lot of variety. We could walk to nearby stores, restaurants, and the Metro easily.

Authenticity & Character
Beautiful decor that reflected the "Zen" theme perfectly.
Location
We could walk to nearby stores, restaurants, and the Metro easily.
Staff
The staff were helpful with answering our questions about the location of restaurants, stores, the Metro, etc.
Cleanliness & Comfort
Every was clean, and the atmosphere was comfortable.
The Golden Frog Inn
El Valle de Antón

The Golden Frog Inn was tucked away in the woods, and the views from our room, and from the dining area, were like looking at a small piece of paradise. Very green, lush, and plentiful with flowers and birds. The staff was accommodating and nice. The food was delicious, and the drinks were refreshing. We liked the swimming pool, and we also enjoyed walking around the grounds to look at the many flower varieties. There was a craft brewery within walking distance, which was an added perk.

Authenticity & Character
Delicious food and drinks. Nice swimming pool. Golden Frog theme is cute.

The Westin was a nice hotel. We stayed on the 16th floor with an Ocean View. The room was clean and spacious. There were lots of restaurants to choose from and several swimming pools.

Authenticity & Character
The common area was open and nicely decorated.
Location
The hotel was right on the beach.
Staff
There were communication difficulties occasionally because we don't speak Spanish, but the staff seemed nice.
Cleanliness & Comfort
The hotel seemed nice, but there was a lot of debris in the swimming pool, and an elevator that was broken.

Magalie,
I would echo John’s comments to a very large degree.

Our driver Eric was great. Punctual, personable, and able to navigate the chaos they call traffic with ease.

Victor was personable, knowledgable, informative, and willing to tailor our outings to our wishes.

Carlos knew the area well and obviously had a real connection to it as he provided information about El Valle de Anton.

I enjoyed the trip through the locks a great deal. It was fascinating to watch the operation.

The accommodations were all nice. Though John and Sharon were stuck on the second floor of the Playa Bonita with a very obstructed view. It would have been much better had they been up on the 16th floor near us with a clear view of the canal entrance.

The trip excursions were all enjoyable and provided a wide range of experiences and different areas of Panama.

The only thing that might have assisted us and provided a better journey was more clear descriptions of what we would be doing. There were times where we were uncertain if we would need to bring our swim wear or not.

Overall, a very nice trip that was efficient in connections, informative as to the area, and very enjoyable.

Ken

I especially enjoyed his candor and sense of humor. The Zen Panama hotel was very modern and the location was in a lively neighborhood with great restaurants and easy access to the Metro. Carlos, our guide in El Valle de Anton was very friendly, knew the area well and gave us excellent recommendations for restaurants. He lead us on a very enjoyable e-bike tour. The Golden Frog Inn and the grounds were stunning! It truly felt like a slice of paradise. Our final hotel, the Playa Bonita was a beautiful gated resort. The accommodations, restaurants and pools were all very nice and we enjoyed our stay. The highlight of our trip was the Red Cat catamaran tour. Jumping into and swimming in the calm, clear Pacific Ocean was unbelievable! Of course the Panama Canal boat trip was a once in a lifetime experience and mingling with and observing the Panamanian people was very rewarding. This trip opened my eyes to the beautiful country and peoples of Panama. I highly recommend it to others.

We appreciated her communication with us along the way. Our trip started in Panama City and our tour guide Luis was EXCELLENT! He knew so much about everything and was open to answering all our questions and engaging in conversation about what was so special about his country. He took us to a wonderful restaurant in Old Town for lunch. Our driver, Luis #2, was always prompt and helpful. We appreciated both of them immensely. We really enjoyed the private boat tour with Luis in Gamboa. Being on the lake with the ships passing through the canal was a once in a lifetime experience. It exceeded our expectations. Boras del Toro was very laid back and the Isle of Colon boat tour with Miguel was amazing. We loved Starfish Beach. The food at the local restaurants in town was very good too, Our driver there was also prompt and went above and beyond to see that we were well taken care of. It was a nice way to wrap it all up before heading back home with a one night stay downtown with the rooftop bar overlooking the city. Our driver back to the airport was also prompt and courteous.

A MUST STAY the treehouse was a room that was so unique, views for miles from every area. To have cocktail hour on the top floor during a sunset or breakfast as the birds awoken is something we will never forget The over water bungalows with private saltwater pools led to a brilliant morning and evening. The service was more of a 7,8,9 star hotel than a 5star. At a push of a button you can have any food , that was Michelin like , a kayak, a bottle of champagne/sparkling wine, a cocktail, or some waters at any time of day. The food does take 45minutes to come out when ordered (except for dinner which is in a restaurant). The ELEPHANT HOUSE FOR DINNER—the most romantic beautiful best food I have ever eaten at a hotel. This is more then just a restaurant, it’s an experience The staff—wow wow wow. So polite so genuine so nice. 12/10

Overall the trip was well planned with lots of tours and things to see and do. Here are my comments in more detail:
- we planned out own 2 weeks in Bocas del Toro prior to the schedule that KimKim (Jessie) set up for us. In hindsight 1 week would have been more than enough time in this area. It is definitely a party area with lots of young people but the area also needs better care and maintenance. We were not impressed with the amount of garbage littered everywhere.
-thank you Jessie for arranging transportation from Bocas to Boquete. While Jerry the driver was very friendly I thought he drove a bit too fast to feel safe on some of the roads but all was well, we arrived safe and sound
- we would have loved at least 2 more days in Boquete! We didn't have time to really explore the town or some of the interesting hikes in the area. Jessie please rethink how many tours you book in a day: after a long drive to get there, we were scheduled for a night tour of the jungle - thankfully it was postponed until the next night due to rain. In addition, I had NO IDEA how hard the hike up to Baru volcano would be and that it would start at midnight (thank goodness the night tour had been cancelled). While I had trained for the hike, at about the 8th km my groin 'popped'. The guide encouraged me to go on even though I told him I was in pain and felt a bit faint. I made it up another 2 kms before I said that this was crazy and that I needed to go back (I knew that if I continued to the top, I would NOT be able to make it back down). In hindsight, given my age, I should have booked just for the hike up and then had a ride down. The guide Daniel, was nice but too young. He didn't listen to me when I told him what I was feeling, he walked ahead of me and wasn't even an emotional support and someone to talk to. Also the headlamp I was given did not have strong batteries and I had to use my cell phone to see plus no option of hiking poles! For the price those things should have been included (I couldn't bring my hiking poles with me on the plane).
- my husband loved the hanging bridges hike and would recommend that again. He said the guide was knowledgable and friendly.
- I would pass on Los Cangilones Canyon: it was crowded (buses of people came in) and was dirty with litter left behind. It didn't feel really pleasant. The guide Luis was very nice and he generously brought us water and fresh fruit which was amazing.
- We all really liked the short walk into the waterfalls as the water was clean and fresh. Again as a group we did pick up a fair amount of garbage. There was some miscommunication between guides. Since the night hike was cancelled a second time, we were suppose to add on the hot springs but Luis didn't know anything about it. Thankyou Jesse for reimbursing us for that cost.
- In hindsight, there were too many tours booked for Boquete leaving us feeling quite tired.
- Carlos, driver, picked us up in Boquete and took us to get our rental vehicle in David. RAVES to Carlos!!! excellent driver and he very kindly waited over an hour while we did all the paperwork for the rental - he didn't leave us until he knew we were set to go.
-LOVED Magic Mountain Inn in Las Lajas. Very clean and new. Beautiful views and great breakfasts. And the owners pointed us in the right direction for great food - local pizza place was fantastic and one of the best meals of the trip was at Naturelamente restaurant which the owner made the reservation for us.
- Driving directions to Santa Catalina led us to an extra 3 hours of driving as a bridge was out on the route suggested, not fun.
- Hotel Sol y Mar was very comfortable and the dinners in the restaurant were excellent! The trip to Coiba National Park was excellent and the boat driver went out of his way to ensure that we saw dolphins, tuna jumping, a flock of pelicans flying over the water and some brown footed boobies sitting on a log in the middle of the ocean.
- Again directions to get to Valle de Anton were challenging (there were no road signs to guide us).
- The Golden Frog Inn was great - clean and comfortable. The town of en Valle was quaint with some good restaurants. It also felt good to have a little cooler weather as a break.
- Edwin, driver in Panama City, was excellent. We were 45 minutes late getting the car rental place but he was there waiting with a smile on his face (probably cause we looked a bit shell shocked at the traffic in the city - crazy).
- Was not impressed with the Hilton Garden Inn. There was a HOT tub on the roof but no swimming pool to relax in. The front desk couldn't break a $100 bill for us (not could the restaurant even though we were going to buy something) so we had to go to the casino. Also the location wasn't great. Suggestion: book a hotel in the old town. A much more interesting area to stay.
- LOVED our tour guide, Eduardo. The City Tour was excellent - saw so much of the city and learned much of its history plus the canal of course.
- I would pass on the Panamena Night Tour. The food wasn't very impressive and felt like we just went to some tourist areas and didn't really get a feel for the culture to the food. It was really disappointing.
- LOVED the Soberania National Park Tour! That was so much better than I expected!!!
- Edwin was ready and waiting for us for the early morning drive to the airport and we arrived safe and sound and in plenty of time for our flights.

As I said overall a really great tour as we got to see so many different places in Panama . Maybe space the tours out better and be super aware of the ages of the travelers and ensure that they are all aware of how much so of these tours will take. We came home very tired as it was so active but feeling very glad we saw as much as we did.

Jesse, thank you for being so responsive while we were traveling and different issues came up.

Really liked that this was a little more rustic (built on the side of a hill which was a little challenging walking up all the steps) and the view from our shared deck was amazing. The best thing about this place was the manager Gino Testo and the chef Arlin Camarena. Gino couldn't have been more attentive and helpful - he works nonstop (I was exhausted watching him) and he consistently wanted to ensure that we were having a great time. Arlin prepared amazing fish and seafood dinners - we were not tempted to eat at any other restaurants in the area because we were sure that they wouldn't top what Arlin prepared. The only reason that I didn't put 5 stars was that on our second day there, the driveway was being repaired and we couldn't drive off the property to do some more exploring. We did go for a walk but were unable to get to the surfing beach which was disappointing. I am sure with the driveway repaired, all is goof.

I asked the night before I was to be picked up "if I could do this". At midnight when picked up, I asked the guide "can I do this". Having never done a hike like this (but I did a lot of training at home before coming down there), I had no clue what to expect. The guide, while nice, was ill equipped to 'hear' me when I said that I was in pain, that I was concerned about how I would get back down if I made it to the top. I was given a headlamp that lacked good batteries and had to use my cell phone since we started the hike at midnight and it was pitch black. No hiking poles available either. I was actually doing quite well until km 8 when my groin 'popped' - very strange as that has never happened before and was VERY painful. The guide encouraged me to go further even though I told him I was in pain and a bit dizzy. On we went for another 2 kms and which point I said that I could make it for the remaining 3 kms but would never be able to get back down so we needed to turn around. The guide walked 4-5 m's in front of me so wasn't offering any moral support. Finally at one point as 4x4 trucks were bringing tour groups up the mountain, the guide asked me if I would be willing to pay one of the drivers to let me ride with them. I jumped at the chance since I was in tears from the pain in my groin. Thankfully the last truck had room for one person. I never made it to the very top as I was in too much pain but I got as close as the truck could go so was happy about that. Thankfully I was fine within 48 hours and didn't damage myself but given the cost and my own expectations (rightly or wrongly), I was very disappointed in the lack of medical awareness and support

The issue is that KimKim hired a local tour company rather than taking the time to find experts for each excursion. We had 6 excursions - one we didn’t get lunch, one lunch were very plain sandwiches, nothing else, and one didn’t have a no vegetarian option even though it was confirmed multiple times that there would be. I would also say that the communication was lacking. We Would have liked more detail as to what to expect for each excursion. As indicated, My first experience with KimKim was phenomenal, this one was lacking. Luckily Panama is a beautiful country, people are friendly , and food is fabulous, otherwise the trip would have been a disappointment.

Our trip to Broquete was almost seamless and our Gapa travel guide, Plinio, was beyond fantastic, especially when one tour had to be canceled due to weather and he came up with a fabulous backup solution. 5 stars for Plinio. Our trip to the San Blas Islands was fantastic, though we felt very underprepared. I wish someone had told us to bring a towel, extra water, and even a snorkel mask. Most other tourists seemed to know this information but we did not. And our accommodations did not remotely match the pictures provided in our itinerary. Maybe we were on a different island? We thought we were getting it huts above the water and that was not the reality. But the island was still great. Our guide via Gapa travel in Panama City was extremely friendly and sociable, but did not have the depth of knowledge I would have expected of a guide and spent a lot of time videoing and posting on his personal social media account. A bit disappointing. There was a bit of a snafu with our driver on the final day to return to the airport but Jesse was very available to help correct the situation. I'm not sure where the breakdown in communication occurred. But we made it in time to make our flight.

Red Frog was a great experience. The Villa at the resort was terrific, but very far from anything. A golf cart to get around was essential and our Villa didn’t have one. We had to rely on calls for pick ups, which weren’t that reliable and created unnecessary delays and stress. This is really the main issue with the resort and really should be addressed. Also, we were repeatedly told towels were coming at the Beach Club but they never arrived after 4 hours. Things like Villa transportation and towels depreciate from the first class price point.
Finally, really appreciated Lucia’s periodic check-ins throughout our trip.

The Palmar was a very nice hotel and the only reason I gave it 4/5 stars is personal preference. Our room was very comfortable (A/C was critical to cool down once or twice a day), staff very friendly and helpful, RIGHT ON THE BEACH. The restaurant and bar were very nice and we enjoyed the variety for a week without tiring of the menu. The only drawback of this hotel (for us) is that some nights can be a little more of a party atmosphere - nothing too big and certainly not loud enough to keep us awake. I probably would have loved this in my 20s....

I think this was one of my favorite days of the entire trip. Our guide Jose was very knowledgable about the rainforest plants and animals, as well as the fort at San Lorenzo. The drive to the fort and the walk down there road were spectacular - we saw so many animals and really got to quietly observe and have branches dropped on us by howler monkeys! The views were beautiful, and even though the workings of the Canal Locks was not my primary interest of this outing, I found them fascinating and am very happy we were able to watch a huge container ship going through the lock system.

It could have been the timing of the particular tour we took, but we were a little disappointed with this tour. We shifted the time to 4pm to try and avoid the hottest part of the day. We did not get to do the chocolate tasting that our son was looking forward to b/c of the day it was scheduled for, and we were only able to see the interior of one church in town (and not the one directly across from the hotel). We also weren't even aware that the Presidential Palace was in the area until our driver the next day mentioned it while we were leaving town. My guess is we only experienced a portion of what this tour should have been... and again, this could have been b/c of the shifted time. It was a little disappointing b/c those were our surroundings during our stay and I would have liked to learn more about it. What we did see and learn about was very interesting. But there was not really any discussion about the current political environment around some of the changes the area has undergone to revitalize tourism (eg; we saw some signs on our own that locals were trying to resist gentrification - would have liked to learn more about how the will of the locals is balanced with tourism).

This day was beyond amazing - tied for my favorite day of the whole trip. Cecelio was such a kind, fun, and warm host for us and the mountains are breathtaking. I kind of wish we had more days like this!!!! The slot canyon swimming hole is SO beautiful and refreshing - I cannot imagine a more perfect place.

Our favorite 2-3 days was Valle de Anton, a quaint town, beautiful scenery, and walking to waterfalls; also great bakery and batida (smoothies). Our third stop was staying 2-3 days the Pearl Islands, where we enjoyed the warm Pacific and very mellow beach days in a quiet setting. All of the this was set up via Kimkim. They made it so easy, and everyone we worked with was personable and professional. We especially loved our in country driver, Julio, and our guide for the days in Panama City, Victoria. On our last day, we visited an indigenous community via dug out canoe, and all of us, including Julio and Victoria swam in the waterfall pools in the National Park. I am so impressed with Panama and its mix of cosmopolitan city, relaxed and laid back environment. safe and easy travel, and friendly and easy to interact with people. Zulmy helped us to design our trip, and she and I went back and forth on ideas to come up with our final itinerary. We were traveling in the rainy season, and she had great tips for us so that we could work best with the weather and also have great sites and not spend all our time in transit. She was even open to helping us book a hotel which I found and wanted to stay at in Casco Viejo. This is our 2nd trip with Kimkim, the first was 3 weeks in Scotland. We will be back. It's a great model and everything was custom, easy, and personal.

Central Hotel Panama
Panama City

This was the perfect landing spot and place to make our home base in Panama City. We chose it for its location in Casco Viejo on a square and with a pool and multiple restaurants. As we arrived, we realized that it was even better than we expected. The rooms and the lobby are gorgeous. All of the restaurants are excellent, and we ate at little tables on the town square the first night. Every evening has 2-3 forms of live music depending on where you are in the hotel. The rooftop pool has the most gorgeous evening view of the Panama City skyline and it was lovely to have a pool. I even used their gym 3-4 times during our stay, and it was well appointed, spacious, and perfect for a quick exercise. The desk staff helped us and went above and beyond many times. For example, they helped my husband get a pair of linen pants hemmed at a local tailor, as he needed some better tropical clothes. Well appointed, excellent professional staff, you will not be disappointed.

The Golden Frog Inn
El Valle de Antón

Golden Frog is an oasis in El Valle de Anton. It was even better than we hoped. There is a view from every room looking out over incredibly peaceful hills and tropical landscape. The pool and grounds are excellent and lovely to spend time in. We swam every day. They also have a lovely terrace patio restaurant and a smaller indoor coffee and bar area where you take your breakfast or have dinner. We were lucky enough to have an outside dinner on a Saturday night where there was a 3 person band playing in the midst of dinner, and it was so perfect, lively, and enjoyable. The staff go above and beyond and you are very well supported. We found it walking distance to the town and we loved the countryside walk into town. There is so much to do in the area! This is such an oasis and peaceful setting. We were sad to leave.

Really meaningful and special day. We went up the river in a dug out canoe, visited a waterfall, and then visited an Embera community. We were all part of a big community in this experience, which was neat, as it did not feel like being distanced from the community who was hosting us. Victoria our local guide and Julio our local driver were also well known by the main Embera people who hosted us and so we felt very welcome. It was beautiful and neat to be in the National Park setting via boat. We loved the lunch at the community and enjoyed seeing the traditions and crafts.

The guide throughout our trip was Eduardo. He was fabulous. He was very enthusiastic, knowledgeable, accommodating, thoughtful, funny... The four of us on the tour would highly recommend him.

Aside from one issue, the itinerary was excellent. In our planned itinerary, we were supposed to have a day going to Portobello.on day 5. This was to be either via train (if it was running) or otherwise by car. When we arrived in Panama that day was switched with the Panama Coast to Coast Land Route. Since the land route takes us to the Colon area and Portobello is in the Colon area, I assumed that it was just a printing error. On day 5, when our guide described where we will be going (the Panama Coast to Coast Land Route), I asked if that included Portobello. He said, “No”, and had no explanation as to why we were going there rather than Portobello. Reyna did not ask us about the change in the itinerary.

After the entire trip, the four of us discussed what we liked and disliked. Everything was excellent except we all felt that there was too much time spent on the Panama Canal. Most of the Panama Coast to Coast Land Route day was spent at the observation area for viewing how the Panama Canal locks worked. It ends up that was entirely wasteful because it is essentially identical to the next day where we were on a boat trip through the Panama Canal locks. That boat trip provided the same knowledge that we had already heard at the observation area the previous day. So, we all felt that we had wasted a day and could have saved a lot of money by shortening our entire trip by one day and not missing anything important.

Reyna was a challenge to work with. (All of this is by memory rather than me checking everything.):
- She often had very delayed responses (e.g., it seemed like she typically responded a week after a question, at least until we were close to going on the trip). I do appreciate that 24/7 responses are an unreasonable expectation. David, for our Colombia kimkim tour (which we went on just before going to Panama), was able to reply in a reasonable time frame. I enjoyed working with him.
- There were a number of misunderstandings. It felt like Reyna did not have time to closely check what was previously said in our communications.
- It seemed like she did not really know what could be seen from Panama City. In other words, she did not offer any ideas beyond what is easily found on the web. At one point we were looking for activities for one more day and we decided that Portobello was the best option for the ideas she gave us.

The hotel was excellent. I asked for a three star hotel and the Riande is four star. That is fine if there was not much of a price difference.

Overall, my husband and I had a great time on this trip we planned through KimKim. It was nice to have all the hotels, domestic air tickets and excursions handled by someone else as we typically do it all ourselves. All the guides were well-educated and friendly, arriving on time and were versed in the activity we were doing. We used "WhatsApp" to communicate directly with our guides which was very helpful. The hotels we stayed at were lovely and we will definitely go back again.

The down side to this experience was that there was a lot of changes once got to Panama which made things a bit confusing. Times changed significantly for many of our tours (though we actually liked the changes), but it was an effort to communicate to make sure everyone was on the same page. We also did not get the bed type we requested at our first hotel and were a bit cramped in a queen vs. a king or two doubles.

This is the second time I have used KimKim to assist with a trip. My first experience was to Columbia and our specialist resided in that country. This experience was very smooth and the communication among all parties was excellent. The specialist we worked with for Panama was located in Nicargua and was more complicated. Given this limited experience, my recommendation is to check out the bio of the specialist to whom you are assigned before you begin planning your trip. Make sure they reside in the country you are visiting, and if they don't, check out their reviews for planning trips there.

Central Hotel Panama
Panama City

My husband and I stayed at the Central Hotel Panama for a total of 4 nights. It is in a fantastic location in the heart of Casco Viejo, with restaurants and shops all around it. The rooftop has a beautiful view of the city and has a nice small pool with lounges around it. The food and the staff in restaurant that is located one floor below the pool is amazing (get the Octopus!). A buffet breakfast is included and is served in the restaurant near the lobby on the main floor. We found it satisfactory, featuring a changing variety of items; however, most of the time the hot items were on the colder side and you wondered how long they had been sitting there. The staff also needed prompting to refill coffee, tea, etc. as they seem more interested in talking to each other than in helping the guests. We travel a lot and try to get hotel rooms with a bit more space. We reserved a Premium room for this reason but were suprised at how small it was. We even inquired to make sure that was the correct room type because there was barely enough space between the queen bed and desk to get to the bathroom. We had requested a king bed but did not receive it until we returned for our second stay at the end of the trip for one night. This beautiful hotel was the first hotel in Panama and has a lot of wonderful history. I gave it three stars because while we loved the location and the views on the rooftop, the service and food were not the best and the rooms were less than we were expecting based on the descriptions.

Hotel Finca Lerida
Boquete

Hotel Finca Lerida is a beautiful, outdoor-oriented, single-story, bungalow-style resort located in the lush mountains of Boquete, with sweeping views of the area. My husband and I stayed for three nights in the rooms with the hammocks outside (can't remember their name!), which were near the highest part of the resort (up the mountain). These rooms are spacious though modestly furnished, with just a desk and chair besides the bed for furniture. The bathroom is very nice with a huge, glassed-in shower. The king bed was comfortable and we enjoyed the beautiful views from the room. I absolutely loved lounging in the hammock after our activities each day listening to the birds! The temperatures up here are cooler than in town, which we enjoyed. The restaurant serves a complimentary breakfast with a limited but adequate menu. Everything is made at the time of ordering and is prepared and served by a wonderful staff. You can eat inside or outside on a deck that overlooks a beautiful view while watching a variety of birds fly around. They also have a very nice dinner menu and we enjoyed one night dining here. The resort is also a well-known coffee farm, so you can see how coffee is made and try their various varieties. They offer different tours on the property and also have some hiking trails. We walked the #1 trail that takes you through the coffee bean bushes and moutains, which was fun (about 1.5 miles). Our favorite part of this resort was the tranquil nature of its location, the gorgeous scenery and the friendly staff. That said, you pay a price for this serenity, as you are 20 minutes up a high, winding mountain road, which is trecherous at night to drive as there are local people and animals walking the road and hard to see. If you want to have drinks and dinner in town, I would highly recommend getting a taxi which the resort can arrange. You want to avoid our experience which was to be returning from town after dark and we came face to face with a large construction truck, with nowhere to go. It was touch and go there for awhile as the truck wanted us to back down the mountain in the dark! Fortunately, my husband has steady nerves and managed to inch around the truck. If you like to be away from the hustle and bustle of town, and enjoy nature, this would be a wonderful choice.

Reyna checked in with us throughout the tour. The trips/transfer to and from the Pearl Islands and to Bocas del Toro were arranged by Reyna and her team and we had no problems at all. She communicated with our hotels and drivers throughout the trip. The drivers were helpful and informative. One of the tours Reyna recommended was a rain forest boat tour of Gatun lake- which is entered via the national park in Panama City. This is a real treat and not to be missed and gives a real perspective of Panama canal's history and geography. Our guide for Gatun Lake and then a visit to Colon, Jenny who is a local, was excellent. I really appreciated her enthusiasm and she clearly knew area well- not to mention where to get the best raspado in town. We spent two nights at Oro y Mar on Isla Contadora which was the most elegant hotel on the island with a beautiful private beach. This was a quiet stay as the island is small. We stayed at Island Plantation in Bocas del Toro- I can't say enough about this place- beautiful with a pool, private beach and far way yet close enough to the town to go into town. We took day trips from there with Kawi Voyage Eco-tours and our guide Sophie Garcia was fantastic. We packed a lot into this trip but it never felt like too much. Thank you Reyna and your team!
