What you'll do
The morning starts with a pick-up service at your accommodations in La Fortuna. With your group, you'll ride about 45 minutes to the put-in point on the Río Balsa. Here, your English-speaking guide will outfit you with a helmet and life vest before they provide a safety lesson and general guidelines for whitewater rafting.
Next, the adventure begins! Enjoy the beautiful scenery as you push off into the river's current. You'll quickly make your way to rolling Class II and III rapids. There will also be quieter stretches of the river where your guide may point out tropical birds, including toucans. You might also spot monkeys, sloths, and other wildlife along the riverbanks.
During this adventure, you won't need to worry about the river's fluctuating water levels because there's a dam that keeps the conditions relatively consistent no matter when you visit. At calmer points of the river, you'll even have the option to jump in for a swim. After nearly two hours of rafting, you'll dry off and enjoy a Costa Rican lunch that your guides will serve al fresco on the river's edge. Reflect on the memorable experience as you head back to La Fortuna.
