Kimkim's Take

Pros:
  • You'll find yourself in the bustling Syntagma neighborhood, just a block from Syntagma Square, offering easy access to Athens' top attractions and transportation options, and surrounded by loads of dining options.
  • Spacious, well-appointed rooms and bathrooms after a stylish 2019 renovation.
  • Light sleepers rejoice, the property is relatively quiet, given it's location on a secondary road despite being in the city center.
  • Family-owned with longstanding, friendly staff providing a warm service.
Cons:
  • Achilleas Hotel's small elevators may not accommodate larger groups or those with wheelchairs comfortably.
  • Although there isn't a pool or gym on-site, the nearby Holmes Place wellness center offers a 10% discount for hotel guests on spa services.

Authenticity

Achilleas Hotel underwent a full renovation in 2019, transforming it into a modern and minimalist boutique hotel. While it may not boast historical architecture or traditional Greek decor, its family-friendly approach and the warmth of its staff reflect the hospitality Greece is known for.

Location

Situated in the Syntagma neighborhood, Achilleas Hotel places you in a prime position to explore Athens. Just one block away from Syntagma Square, the hotel is enveloped in the city's cultural and geographical heart. A 20-minute walk south will take you to the iconic Acropolis, while a 10-minute stroll east brings you to the lush expanse of the Athens National Garden. For shopping enthusiasts, the Ermou shopping street, lined with boutiques and luxury stores, is only two blocks away.

Rooms & Bathrooms

The rooms at Achilleas Hotel are modern and clean, featuring light gray walls and dark hardwood floors. Standard Rooms can accommodate up to three guests and include a sofa bed. Superior Rooms, located on higher floors, offer small private balconies with street views. For a more luxurious stay, the Junior Suite provides extra space and a king-size bed. Families can opt for the Quadruple Room, which is the largest and includes a writing desk. Bathrooms are sleek, with walk-in showers and waterfall showerheads.

Amenities

While Achilleas doesn't have a pool or spa on-site, it partners with a nearby wellness center, Holmes Place, offering guests a 10% discount on spa services. The hotel serves a continental breakfast each morning, which is included in the room rate. For guests who are driving, the hotel offers a special rate at a nearby private garage, which is a boon, given the hotel's central location in a dense urban area.

Family-Friendliness

Achilleas Hotel Quadruple Room option accommodates up to four family members, while cots are available for infants, and the hotel’s elevators make it accessible for families with strollers.

Two people cannot walk around at a time. There is no view from the balcony except into a much nicer hotel with amazing landscaping and a beautiful rooftop restaurant. The furniture is arranged in such a way that you cannot fit your suitcases. The breakfast area is dark and tiny, with only one table under a skylight that's worth eating at but that is always taken. WOULD NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN!

Authenticity & Character
It's just a small, cheap, dingy building with no warmth or hospitality that Greeks are known for.
Location
It's not in the center of anything! Athens is not that big and we had to walk miles and miles to get to the Acropolis and other sights.
Staff
They were polite but not warm or friendly
