Authenticity
Plaka Hotel's six-story high-rise is something of a neighborhood landmark these days, and though the 1960 building doesn't offer much in the way of charm, the Plaka location makes it a perenially popular choice for exploring Athens. The modern hotel is part of a family-run chain, with interiors renovated in 2019 to offer clean and convenient 3-star comforts. You won't find much in the way of character beyond some locally-inspired artworks on the walls, but a generous breakfast buffet with plenty of traditional Greek options and a truly spectacular rooftop terrace put this a cut above the standard chain property.
Location
The hotel's prime location in Plaka is one of its biggest draws. This charming, cobbled neighborhood sits in the shadow of the Acropolis and is filled with some of the city's best restaurants and shopping. It's a 4-minute walk to Monastiraki Square and convenient metro links, 10 minutes to the city's central Syntagma Square, and 15 to the top of the Acropolis (just be prepared for an uphill climb). The airport is about 40 minutes away by taxi or metro. There's no parking available at the hotel and paid lots in the surrounding area tend to fill up fast.
Rooms & Bathrooms
The 70+ rooms are simple and somewhat nondescript, but they offer a comfortable base with all the mod-cons. Walls in calming shades of sage, warm wooden floors, and large windows keep things feeling light and airy, and bathrooms are modern and clean with glass-enclosed showers or bathtubs. Standard and Superior rooms overlook the city, the latter with balconies, while the Deluxe options feature picture-perfect views of the Acropolis. All rooms include WiFi and air-conditioning, and the upper floors are accessed via elevator.
Amenities
The standout feature at Plaka Hotel is its rooftop terrace, open year-round with covered and outdoor seating. Guests can soak up some sun and enjoy dazzling views over the Acropolis during the day, then sip a cocktail and dine on Greek-inspired dishes from the bar/restaurant as the Parthenon lights up after dark. There's also a sunny breakfast room with views over the bustling city streets, where a complimentary breakfast buffet of continental options and local Greek treats is served daily. Free coffee, tea, and cookies are available throughout the day in a small lounge area.Family-Friendliness
Plaka Hotel welcomes families, with interconnecting room options that can accommodate up to four people comfortably. Kids under three stay for free, while those over are charged as adults. Free cribs are available for infants, and a babysitting service can be arranged.Like what you see?
