Pros
  • Enjoy a DIY experience at this modern, self-service hotel with stylish, functional rooms less than a 10-minute walk from Oslo's express train to and from the airport.
  • The large lobby appeals to a variety of travelers including remote workers with various seating areas and tables.
  • All rooms have pillow-top mattresses and many come with large windows and city views.
  • A property host is on the property 24/7 if a staff member is needed.
Cons
  • Rooms are compact and only cleaned once a week.
  • Unlike most hotels in Oslo, breakfast is not available or included in the price.
  • The hotel does not appeal to guests who value staff hospitality.

Authenticity

The building’s historic exterior is unexpected considering this is an ultra-modern hotel concept. But it’s a nice surprise, especially when you discover preserved architectural elements integrated throughout the property from the wrought-iron staircase to the glass atrium in the lobby. Everything else has a function in mind, with self-serve kiosks for check-in and check-out, and very few staff onsite, letting the hotel focus on other matters like affordable prices. If you need help with anything, phones are available to reach a host 24 hours a day (there is no reception desk). Common areas provide conveniences for modern travelers with vending machines, TVs, low lighting, and reliable wifi, which can help make the first floor feel like a trendy coworking space complete with subway tiling and potted plants.

Location

This is a well-located property in the heart of Oslo within walking distance to major attractions in either direction from the Munch Museum all the way to the Aker Brygge waterfront area. Most guests will arrive from the Oslo Central Station with regular express service to and from the airport—just a five-minute walk from the hotel. Adding to the location’s appeal, the hotel is situated on a street that doesn’t get as much foot traffic or noise as nearby Karl Johans gate and instead is loaded with more local upscale shops and bakeries. Two blocks from the hotel is a parking garage for a daily fee. Public transportation is also nearby.

Rooms & Bathrooms

The hotel’s 216 rooms can be accessed by stairs or elevators. They have simple but modern decor with hardwood-style floors and blonde furnishings including a working desk, headboard with reading lamps, and a nightstand, as well as blackout shades. Keep in mind that there are no TVs, safes, or mini-fridges in the rooms. Bathrooms have a walk-in shower and basic bath products in dispensers (no conditioner). Bigger groups can choose the family rooms with a double bed and set of bunk beds, while the biggest sleeps five adults. Many room categories have large windows that open for fresh air, and views face either the city or interior courtyard.

Other Highlights

Since the hotel does not have a traditional staff, including a front desk, attendants, or bars or restaurants, they are able to offer lower rates (a property host is present 24/7 for any problems). What the lobby space does offer are several options for seating areas that have an urban decor for relaxing, working, or watching TV (since there are no TVs in the rooms). There’s also a communal kitchen with a refrigerator, microwave, and vending machines selling drinks and snacks. Guests can use two Apple computers, as well as a ping pong table, dart board, and book exchange. Self-service luggage storage and a washer and dryer are also onsite.

Sustainability

The hotel has eco-friendly dispensers for bath products helping eliminate single-use plastics. Housekeeping service is not available for short-term stays, but linens and towels are replaced once per week depending on the length of stay. This saves water and resources and helps keep room rates low.
