Hotel Calatrava, Mallorca
Trendy design hotel in Palma's Old Town with sea views, homemade breakfast, and a spa
Overview
Kimkim's Take
- You'll be in a historic building within the Old Town walls, but the hotel features a clean yet warm and trendy design.
- The huge bathrooms in the rooms almost steal the show, with soaking tubs in the suites, spacious counters, and organic toiletries.
- If you want the best views, book the sea-facing suite, which offers a large stone balcony.
- The spa is small but has a few unique amenities, including a shower with various spouts and temperatures and tiled thermal loungers for relaxation.
- Breakfast on the rooftop is a treat, with homemade goodies, made-to-order hot dishes, comfy seating, and amazing views.
- You can take your other meals on the rooftop, but the on-site restaurant also has a nice dining room on the ground floor with an outdoor terrace.
- The restaurant serves locally sourced food, including beloved S'Aglà's artisan cheeses, and has a vast wine menu featuring several varietals from the islands.
- The sea views are a nice perk for a city hotel, but they face the large six-lane highway that wraps around the port.
- With just 16 rooms, the hotel is a little small, so the amenities feel a bit simple for a 5-star property (no pool, small spa area).
Authenticity
Calatrava calls itself a "Mediterranean sea house," and that's an excellent way to describe this property. The hotel sits in a 19th-century building in the oldest part of Palma, right along the old city walls and overlooking the Parc de la Mar. With local Mallorcan artwork, incredible sea views from the rooftop terrace and some of the rooms, and a restaurant focusing on island cuisine, you really feel a sense of the Mediterranean throughout the property.Location
Hotel Calatrava sits directly on Palma's historic walls and overlooks the city's beloved waterfront park. You'll be just around the corner from the Puerta del Mar, the old gate that leads to the park, and a 10-minute walk from the Catedral de Mallorca. The Gothic Convent de Santa Clara and the Arab Baths are a few steps away, and you can easily walk to other sites, including the Llotja building and La Rambla shopping street. If you'd like to enjoy the city's beach, Platja de Can Pere Antoni, plan for an eight-minute walk.Rooms & Bathrooms
All 16 rooms have warm and refined interiors featuring exposed beamed ceilings, wooden doors or windows, Juliette balconies or terraces, and spacious bathrooms. Suites offer more space and seating areas, and those facing the sea have excellent views of Palma Bay from the furnished terrace.Other Highlights
The hotel's rooftop terrace overlooking the sea is perfect for enjoying your meals. A gourmet breakfast buffet awaits each morning, featuring homemade cakes, preserves, and made-to-order organic eggs. You can also enjoy other meals on the rooftop or the ground floor with its dining room and terrace. Then, relax at the spa with its hot tub, Finnish sauna, thermal loungers, and treatment menu.Like what you see?
