Hotel Casa Cacao, Girona
Chocolate-inspired luxury boutique hotel with a pastry kitchen and a rooftop terrace in the heart of Girona's Old Town
Overview
Kimkim's Take

- The hotel's chocolate theme is perfection: you'll receive complimentary namesake chocolates in your room, and the chocolate atelier offers tastings every day.
- You can enjoy your breakfast and downtime on the garden-inspired terrace, with a beautiful stone wall, panoramic roof-top views, wooden and wicker furniture, and comfy pillows.
- Enjoy being right in the heart of the city, steps from Plaça de Catalunya, which spans the Onyar River, and within walking distance of all the major sites.
- Locals and guests line up for Casa Cacao's brunch offering, a four-course decadent meal that incorporates plenty of chocolate.
- If the chocolate theme didn't convince you, the rooms will; they're large and invite you to relax amid organic elements, natural tones, golden plush carpet, and extra-comfy beds.
- The daily brunch is a big hit, just keep in mind that it costs extra and adheres to traditional mealtimes, starting at 12:30 pm. You can still enjoy a simpler (included) breakfast earlier.
Authenticity
Hotel Casa Cacao prides itself on its authenticity and unique character. The hotel is in a beautifully restored historic building that blends Catalan architecture with modern design and features local artwork and design elements in its decor. Of course, the big draw is the pastry kitchen and chocolate tastings showcasing the region's culinary traditions.Location
Just 2 minutes on foot takes you away from the hotel's quiet location on a side street to the Onyar River, and once you cross over Plaça de Catalunya, you'll be in the city's Jewish Quarter. You'll then be right in the middle of the buzzy business district and the historic Old Town. A 6-minute walk gets you to the iconic "Red Bridge," Pont de les Peixateries Velles (right next door to a gelateria and a bikineria that has connections to the hotel), and you'll reach the Girona Cathedral in just 10. You can also visit the cathedral by walking along the historic walls, with its southern entrance only 5 minutes from the hotel.Rooms & Bathrooms
The rooms at Hotel Casa Cacao are truly relaxing, with organic elements that echo the hotel's chocolate theme. You'll find cozy, warm rooms with golden area rugs and lots of natural highlights, including mid-century wooden furniture and fluted wood accents in the bathrooms, stone sinks, bamboo toothbrushes, plants and flowers, and linen pillows. Rooms include a delicious daily breakfast (different from the brunch), sofas, coffee tables, and freestanding soaking tubs in the bathrooms.Amenities
The hotel's rooftop is a big standout feature, offering unbeatable views of Girona. You can relax on the comfy furniture while enjoying breakfast, brunch, dinner, or just some quiet time, though you may have to share with locals who gather for the brunch. The pastry kitchen, visible through a glass wall in the lobby, is also quite fun and unique, with daily chocolate tastings, workshops, and other treats, including a cocoa bar. There's also a café-bar across the street.Family-Friendliness
Casa Cacao's strengths lie in its culinary offerings, making it an ideal choice for couples or solo travelers seeking a gastronomic experience, rather than families.Like what you see?
