Overview
Reine Rorbuer is nestled in the scenic Lofoten archipelago, offering an authentic stay in bright red, beautifully restored fishing cabins. Accommodations are scattered along the waterfront throughout the charming harborside village of Reine, and each provides modern comforts alongside rustic details, some with turf roofs, well-equipped kitchens, and cozy woodstoves. Activities like hiking, kayaking, fishing, and cycling are available on the hotel's doorstep, and come dinnertime guests can savor local cuisine in front of a roaring fire in a former 18th-century general store.
Kimkim's Take
- Located in one of Norway's most beautiful villages, the property's traditional fishing cabins offer stunning views of the Reinefjord and surrounding mountains.
- The on-site Gammelbua restaurant showcases local and seasonal flavors from its cozy dining room in an 18th-century building.
- Most cabins feature fully equipped kitchens, allowing you to prepare your own meals (including freshly caught seafood).
- The location offers easy access to outdoor activities like kayaking, hiking the famous Reinebringen trail, and fishing.
- You'll be in a prime location for experiencing the phenomena of the midnight sun and the northern lights.
- The hotel is closed during November, December, and January.
- Breakfast must be pre-ordered and isn't included in the standard room rate.
Authenticity
Reine Rorbuer offers a genuine taste of Lofoten heritage with its 40+ traditional red cabins, known as "rorbu". Once home to local fishermen, the buildings have been carefully modernized to provide modern comforts without sacrificing their authenticity. You'll find details like turf roofs, rustic wood paneling, and woodstoves alongside well-equipped kitchenettes, updated bathrooms, and free WiFi. The on-site restaurant is housed in a late 18th-century building that originally served as the village's general store and serves an innovative menu of Lofoten-sourced specialties like stockfish, Arctic char, and grass-fed lamb.
Location
Nestled in the picturesque village of Reine on the island of Moskenesøya, Reine Rorbuer is surrounded by dramatic mountain peaks and the Arctic Ocean. A short walk takes you to the trailhead of the renowned Reinebringen hike, and nearby amenities include a convenience store and café. Ferries arrive/depart from the Reine harbor, just a 2-minute walk away, and you're a 15-minute drive from the Stockfish Museum and just 6 miles (9.8 km) from the Norwegian Fishing Village Museum. Free on-site parking is available, and the closest airport is in Leknes, just over an hour's drive north.
Rooms & Bathrooms
The property features 40+ guesthouses, ranging from studios to three-bedroom apartments, each built in the style of traditional Norwegian fishing cabins and decorated to reflect the local area. Almost all have a kitchen (full or kitchenette), and all feature a dining area, cozy seating, free WiFi, private bathrooms with showers, and fantastic harbor views. Some of the guesthouses also provide outdoor space with decks and/or picnic tables, and a few feature cozy wood-burning stoves.
Amenities
The on-site Gammelbua restaurant is a real highlight of the property, showcasing local and seasonal products in creative ways. You'll dine in a rustic, 18th-century building or on the surrounding terrace, both with panoramic views of the Lofoten landscape. Breakfast is available each day, but must be preordered. You'll have access to bicycle rentals for exploring the area and the option to engage in activities like fishing, kayaking, and fjord cruises. The property is open year-round, except for November, December, and January, offering the opportunity to experience both the midnight sun and the northern lights.Family-Friendliness
Reine Rorbuer welcomes families. A few cabins aren't suitable for children due to the layouts, but most of the options with self-catering kitchens and multiple bedrooms are perfect for larger groups and longer stays. Details like charming wood-paneled bunk beds give the cabins a fun, rustic feel, and the plentiful outdoor activities on your doorstep will keep active children busy.Like what you see?
