Saseka Tented Camp, Thornybush Game Reserve
Luxury safari lodge with private pools, spa services, and immersive game-viewing experiences
Overview
Located in a national park in Hoedspruit, Saseka Tented Camp is a luxurious lodge that blends the nostalgic South African safari style with contemporary 21st-century design. Situated on a bend of the seasonal Monwana River, you can reach the Mafunyani Cultural Village by car in 40 minutes and the Andover Nature Reserve in just under an hour. At the camp, you'll discover an elevated deck with tiered levels serving as the main area where guests gather for drinks and meals. The ceiling filters shadow and light, creating the illusion of sitting under the dappled shade of a tree. Throughout the camp, you'll have numerous opportunities to take in views of the bush, trees, and wildlife.
Saseka Tented Camp has about 10 individually decorated suites that are modern reinterpretations of the structures built by early settlers during the 1800s Gold Rush. The decor includes colors like sage, gray, apple, and dusty pink, reflecting the outdoors, which might bring you a sense of relaxation. Enjoy various bathing options, including indoor and outdoor showers with rainfall showerheads and deep soaking tubs. Each suite also has a spacious game-viewing deck overlooking the riverbed where you can watch animals stop for water from the comfort of your private plunge pool. If you're traveling with your family or a small group, consider booking Little Saseka, which includes an exclusive living and dining area, a shared deck and pool, and a private safari vehicle.
Most guests visit Saseka Tented Camp to partake in daily game drives with opportunities to see the Big Five, which includes lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos, and buffaloes. If you want to explore the bush on foot, go for a guided bush walk to learn more about the smaller animals and plants. After your safari, enjoy the full-service spa, which offers massages and facials. Sip a specialty drink in the riverbed lit by lanterns before enjoying your dinner on the elevated deck as a stone water feature trickles soothingly in the background, adding to the relaxing ambience. Your stay includes other freshly cooked meals, like shakshuka for breakfast, health bowls for lunch, and macaroons for tea.
