Rustic safari camp in the Thornybush Reserve with solar-powered tents, chalets, and wildlife game drives

Overview

Tangala Safari Camp offers an authentic safari experience in the Thornybush Reserve bordering Greater Kruger Park, where you'll have daily opportunities to view the Big Five (elephants, lions, leopards. rhinos, and buffaloes). Established in 1940, Tangala is known for its history and commitment to sustainability, as it runs entirely off solar energy. From various places in the camp, you can take in the views of Drakensberg Mountain Range and the waterhole where animals like zebras and rhinos stop to drink.

Tangala Safari Camp has just under 10 units, with the option to stay in tents or chalets. Regardless of your choice, each simple room includes two twin beds under mosquito nets, side tables, and lamps. The interior is basic yet rustic, with wooden decorations on the walls and wooden accents in the bathrooms. You can step out onto your covered patio from your room and enjoy the views of the bush around the camp as you sip your morning coffee. While some kimkim guests have suggested that certain aspects of the rooms could use an upgrade, others have appreciated the camp's comfort, hospitality, and atmosphere.

When you stay at Tangala Safari Camp, you can partake in daily game drives, one in the early morning and the other in the evening, where knowledgeable guides drive you into the bush for an up-close look at the Big Five and other animals. Cool off in the outdoor pool or stroll through the garden if you'd like to relax after an exciting safari. When it's time to dine, the camp supplies brunch, high tea, and dinner, with authentic South African options to try the local cuisine.

The accommodation was less than my expectations. The managerial Team - Jannette and Chris were nice and friendly. The room was clean but definitely needs an upgrade. Particularly floor, water faucets, and shower area, and toiletries. While the driver and the tracker are pleasant to interact with but the lack of professionalism and depth of knowledge are very much evident. The game drive vehicle needs a replacement. The cook was nice and showed eagerness to cater your needs.

It is in a nice location just right at the heart of the bush where you are more accessible to the animals.
