Soho Boutique Palacio San Gabriel, Ronda

Humble hotel with unique historical details, plus a cellar and movie room

Overview

Spend your nights in a former 19th-century palace in Ronda's most historic area. Soho Boutique Palacio San Gabriel maintains the building's character, and you'll see many historical elements in the rooms, too. Relax on the typical Andalusian inner patio, read a book in the fireside lounge, sip wine in the old cellar, or watch a movie in the projection room. When exploring the city, you'll be steps away from Puente Nuevo and the start of the Tajo Gorge trail.

Pros
  • Enjoy sleeping in one of the most historic hotels in Ronda, a former 18th-century palace that still maintains its charms.
  • All the rooms have double beds, though you can book one of the suites for more space or request a third bed (twin), which fits in some rooms.
  • You'll be in the most historic part of the city, just four minutes from Puente Nuevo and near the Tajo Gorge trail, a paved route (lit at night) that offers some of the best views of the bridge and river.
  • The hotel offers some unique amenities, including an old cellar where you can sip wine, a fireside lounge with a small library, and a projector room to watch movies.
  • Enjoy a daily breakfast buffet and let the hotel know if you follow a specific diet.
Cons
  • Though the hotel is trying to channel the building's history, some of the furnishings and decor miss the mark and just feel outdated.

Authenticity

You'll find SohoBoutique hotels throughout Spain, but this location might be the most historic. The 18th-century palace maintains much of its history, so you'll find an original cellar, wooden doors, windows with ironwork, archways, and tile floors. This preservation is unique for SohoBoutique properties, as the company typically prefers a sleek, modern design.

Location

As a historic building, you'll find the hotel in the older part of the city, just south of Puente Nuevo, a four-minute walk away. The streets here are incredibly charming and narrow, and you'll be next door to two small museums, one with paintings by Joaquín Peinado and the other with a preserved Nasrid-Dynasty house. You'll also be near the Tajo Gorge trail, the perfect place to take photos at sunrise, sunset, and night (the route is paved and lit).

Rooms & Bathrooms

Though this historic hotel plays up those 18th-century elements, you'll find fresh, modern bedding and clean, spacious bathrooms. You can enjoy details like four-poster and canopy beds, dark-wood furniture, and antique headboards, but these furnishings miss the historical element in some of the rooms and feel a little outdated. Some of the double rooms can fit a third twin bed if you're traveling with kids.

Other Highlights

You can relax in the restored Andalusian patio, fireside lounge with a library, historic cellar (where you can sip wine), and a projector room for watching movies. The reception remains open 24/7, and the staff is happy to arrange parking if you have a car. Enjoy a daily breakfast buffet, which the hotel can adjust for those with a specific diet.
