Authenticity
Housed in a renovated retirement home villa from 1928, Trolltunga Hotel leverages its location to its natural surroundings and its history, keeping rooms tastefully simple with mid-century furnishings. The restaurant, housed in a glass building, serves seasonal dishes crafted from local Hardanger produce, offering an authentic taste of the region.Location
Nestled in the scenic town of Odda, Trolltunga Hotel offers beautiful views of mountains, waterfalls, and glacier-fed Sandvin Lake. It's conveniently positioned for outdoor enthusiasts, with the Trolltunga hike starting point a 30-minute drive or bus ride away. Other attractions like the Buarbreen glacier viewpoint (an offshoot of Folgefonna) is a 10-minute drive, while Hardangervidda National Park is about 20. It's important to note that it's a 20-30 minute walk downhill to reach the town center's shops and restaurants.Rooms & Bathrooms
Rooms at Trolltunga are small, many with charming windows that open to let the outside in. They're painted in soothing colors, either fjord blue, pale gray, or sage green, and are outfitted with mid-century mod furniture and light fixtures. There are numerous room categories, ranging from tight single rooms to slightly more spacious Double or Triple Room options with a Double Room Plus option for those using wheelchairs. Not all rooms have their own bathroom. For a special experience, upgrade to the Trolltunga Gateway Cabin set in Mågelitopp, 3 miles (5 km) on the trail to Trolltunga. Ideal for larger parties, it has three bedrooms (each with two beds), an annex with three more beds, a kitchen, bathroom, fireplace, and a beautiful deck with seating.Amenities
Most travelers come to Trolltunga Hotel for the location using it as a base for outdoor activities, and therefore, won't find much in the way of amenities (like the lack of WiFi in the rooms). One of the hotel's standout features, however, is its glass-fronted restaurant, where you can dine on local cuisine while taking in views of the mountains and glacier-fed lake. Atop the restaurant is a terrace and there's also a large garden, providing ample space to relax and enjoy the scenery. For those seeking adventure, the surrounding area offers activities such as hiking, climbing, canoeing/kayaking, and fishing, not to mention there's a golf course next door.Family-Friendliness
While Trolltunga Hotel welcomes families, its primary appeal lies in its focus on outdoor activities, which may be more suited to families with older kids. Cribs are available for infants, but there are no specific amenities tailored for young children.Like what you see?

Incredibly welcoming and accommodating hotel with great restaurant. We arrived late to check in but the very kind woman at the front desk welcomed us and ran to the kitchen to see if we could still order dinner. A few minutes later we were seated in the lounge followed shortly by two very delicious meals. We would have been happy with leftovers as we knew we were inconveniencing the kitchen but the salmon and pork dinners were freshly prepared, perfectly garnished and served by the chef...

It was a nice hotel; however it was at the very top of the hill and away from everything so if you wanted to go to the grocery store or a restaurant, you had to walk down hill (~20-30 min) and then back up. The rooms were comfy but small and there was no wifi in the rooms. The breakfast was basic and minimal.

The Trolltunga hotel was much nicer than we both expected. We expected it to be pretty rustic, but the room was VERY nice (I honestly liked it more than our previous hotel). We got a great view, and the breakfast also has lots of hot and cold options. It was great. Since we were doing the hike to Trolltunga the next day, we both bought lunch vouchers, which allowed us to make some sandwiches while at breakfast, and get a bottle of water, apple, and chocolate.

The room was a bit small and interior design was simpler. But the views were exceptional. Have to drive about 5 min to the nearest shops/supermarkets. Located close to an amazing waterfall (by driving).

We thought the hotel was great - but it's definitely a hikers/outdoors basecamp so the rooms are minimal. But you're not in Odda for luxury. Hotel restaurant was very good.
