V1935 Luxurious Apartments, Athens

5.0 (1 review) · Comfort
Large bright apartments and studios make up the V1935, which offers guests a peaceful home in the middle of Athens' city center.

Overview

The V1935 offers guests a surprising amount of peace and space considering its central location just a few blocks from Syntagma Square. The nine studios and apartments make the V1935 ideal for those staying in Athens for longer durations or who want something different from the standard hotel fare. The rooms' fully stocked kitchens, spacious layouts, and details like marble or hardwood floors can make guests feel more like they’re living in Athens, rather than just visiting or passing through.

Pros
  • The apartments and studios offer fully stocked kitchens and washing machines, which is a boon for those looking to cook at home or wash the outfit that has been through the wringer for the past week.
  • The V1935 is centrally located in Plaka near Syntagma Square but the soundproof windows and overall ambience of the apartments make it feel quiet and peaceful in the midst of the liveliness just outside.
  • The historical details of the building are fantastic, such as patterned marble floors in the entryway and some of the rooms and a heavy iron door at the entrance.
  • The charming rooftop restaurant offers Italian cuisine and city views.
Cons
  • While the rooftop restaurant is a great place to enjoy a meal or drink, note that it does not have Acropolis or panoramic views.
  • The approach of the V1935 is of luxury apartments rather than a hotel, so it’s more appropriate for travelers that want more autonomy or an experience that isn’t as all-inclusive as a traditional hotel.
  • While the apartments and studios do feel spacious, some have more limited storage options, such as the second bedroom in the Penthouse, which features just a bed and no closet.

Authenticity

The V1935 – as its name indicates – is a pre-war building from 1935. Once home to a grocery store and school, it’s been operating as a hotel since 2017. The building has retained several of its original details, such as the intricate and heavy iron door at the entrance, and black and white marble in the reception area, penthouse, and elsewhere. The rooms have all been renovated to meet modern standards while still retaining the charm and history of the building.

Location

The V1935 is located on Voulis Street, which is a busy thoroughfare that runs from Syntagma to Plaka. While it's located in a vibrant area filled with shops, bars, and restaurants, the V1935 manages to keep out the noise to create a peaceful environment for guests. The V1935 is less than five minutes by foot to Syntagma Square and the metro, while you can reach the Acropolis along with its metro and Museum, as well as Monastiraki Square in 10 minutes walking. All of this makes the V1935 perfect for those who love to walk, explore the city by subway, or do a mix of both.

Rooms & Bathrooms

The nine rooms of the V1935 vary between studios and apartments, with the two-bedroom penthouse offering the most amount of space that can accommodate up to six people. However, the second bedroom of the penthouse only has room for the bed and a night table, so guests in that room will have to store their items in the master bedroom or elsewhere.

The studios have two separate twin beds, which can be pushed together to make a double. Those looking for bigger beds or to not fall into the crack in the middle of the night can check out the rooms A1 or B1, which are larger apartments that include regular double beds.

All of the apartments include full kitchens with silverware, plates, and cooking utensils, as well as a dishwasher and washing machine for guests to do laundry in a pinch. It's not so common to have a drier in Greece, so be prepared to hang your clothes on a line or drier rack (provided with the room) like a true Greek.

Other Highlights

The rooftop restaurant is open year-round in the evenings, from around 5PM to midnight. It offers Italian cuisine and the decoration makes you feel like you’re in a bistro. What really stands out is the projector screen that comes down, where the restaurant plays silent movies to add a sense of old school European atmosphere.
