Villa Terminus
An intimate boutique hotel for individuals or groups, across from Bergen’s central train station.
Overview
Kimkim's Take
- Enjoy plush rooms named after Norwegian literary figures with quality Scandi-style decor, colorful textiles, and minibars stocked with high-end drinks and snacks.
- Though the onsite staff is minimal, guests are served breakfast in the gourmet kitchen and can call the front desk at the hotel next door for any requests (rooms are equipped with phones).
- The hotel has a quiet and peaceful environment with lawn space and is less than a 15-minute walk to Bergen’s waterfront.
- Expect higher prices for room rates than the two sister hotels next door.
Authenticity
Villa Terminus is part of a hospitality group of five hotels in Bergen named De Bergenske. This is the smallest property of the bunch, situated next door to two sister hotels, the Grand Hotel Terminus and the Zander K Hotel further down the block. Though guests staying at the Villa Terminus don’t have their own 24/7 staff, guests can easily walk back and forth to the Grand Hotel Terminus lobby to use the amenities there, like the fitness center and restaurant, or call the staff for requests. The historic white clapboard villa has been immaculately renovated and sits beyond a large green space with seasonal outdoor tables. Inside there’s a horseshoe-shaped interior, and a few bright seating areas leading to the open chef’s kitchen where breakfast is served. Dark grey hallways with atmospheric lighting lead to the rooms on several floors. Guests tend to choose this option to obtain more peace and privacy, and the location is often used for small groups or gatherings.Location
Villa Terminus has a central location for getting to and from Bergen’s central train and bus station across the street. The tram that travels to and from Bergen airport is about a five-minute walk from the front door. More conveniences in the surrounding streets include a shopping mall with a pharmacy and grocery store, as well as several cafes, bars, and restaurants. With a good pair of walking shoes, Bergen’s major attractions including the UNESCO-listed Bryggen waterfront wharf can be reached in under 15 minutes by foot. Taxis and private transfers can also be arranged through the front desk at Grand Hotel Terminus next door.Rooms & Bathrooms
All 18 rooms are named after a historic literary figure in Western Norway. They have a unique layout due to the historic architecture, with possible oblique angles, sloping ceilings, and/or original details like wood-beam ceilings. What they do have in common is an overall clean and minimalistic look with quality Nordic furnishings. Rooms have hardwood floors, luxury linens with extra pillows, and pretty textiles that add bits of color. Each room has a working desk, while bathrooms have local bath products provided in eco-friendly glass bottles. Mini-bars (for a fee) are stocked with local cider, half-bottles of champagne, and gourmet snacks. Rooms also have phones that reach staff next door in case you have questions or requests.Other Highlights
Guests have exclusive access to their own common spaces inside the villa, including a few chic seating areas, providing a peaceful respite for working or reading. Tables are also arranged in the room next to the chef’s kitchen for enjoying the elegant breakfast spread served daily—a much different experience than dining at the busy buffet next door. That said, helpful amenities are available next door including a fitness center and self-service laundry (free). Dry cleaning and laundry service can also be arranged by calling the front desk.Like what you see?
