Welcome to the lively capital of Argentina, Buenos Aires! Meet your driver outside the airport and transfer to your hotel, enjoying a brief introduction to the city along the way. Upon arrival, check in and relax until this evening's dinner and show. When it's time, transfer to Gala Tango in the historic neighborhood of Monserrat and settle in for a gourmet dinner featuring traditional Argentine cuisine paired with fine wines from the country's most exclusive wineries. The venue's ornate chandeliers, velvet drapes, and old-world charm create an intimate dining experience for you to celebrate your romance.
Day 2: Discover Buenos Aires' Parks & Gardens on a Bicycle
Join your guide on a bicycle ride through the green "lung" of the city, Bosques de Palermo. This expansive park offers tree-lined paths, serene lakes, and lush gardens, providing an oasis within the bustling capital. After a brief orientation, hop on your bike and pedal through the park, stopping to enjoy Paseo El Rosedal Garden, a rose garden designed by the renowned landscape architect Carlos Thays. Continue to the neighborhoods of Palermo Chico and Barrio Parque, where you can see an array of Parisian-style mansions, many of which have been converted into embassies.
Day 3: Buenos Aires Barrios Tour, Dinner at Casa Coupage
Spend the day discovering the city's vibrant barrios (neighborhoods), as each one has its own unique character, traditions, and history. Start in Plaza de Mayo in Montserrat, where you'll find landmarks like the Metropolitan Cathedral and Casa Rosada, the president's executive mansion and office. Then, your guide will ask you which neighborhoods you want to see next, whether it's the waterfront district of Puerto Madero, the historic San Telmo, or the colorful La Boca.
Chat with a local specialist who can help organize your trip.
Day 4: Fly to El Calafate, Board Spirit of the Glaciers Cruise
Say goodbye to Buenos Aires this morning as you transfer to the airport for a 3.5-hour flight to El Calafate, nestled on the shores of Lago Argentino. Meet your driver outside the airport and transfer to a private port to board the M/V Santa Cruz and start your cruise with Spirit of the Glaciers. This three-day cruise will take you through Los Glaciares National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site home to over 200 glaciers, including the iconic Perito Moreno Glacier.
Set sail from Bahía Tranquila around 5:30 pm and enjoy a gourmet dinner on board as you continue to Bahía Alemana, a tranquil inlet surrounded by dramatic cliffs and towering icebergs. Then, dock for the night in Puesto de las Vacas, where you can enjoy panoramic views of the lush forests, soaring mountains, and striking blue hues of nearby glaciers from the observation deck, one of the lounges, or even your cabin. End the night with a glass of wine with your partner overlooking the icy blue waters.
Day 5: Cruise to Spegazzini Glacier & Upsala Glacier
Start your day with a delicious breakfast on board before disembarking at Puesto de las Vacas for a leisurely walk. Follow your guide down the well-marked paths for a close-up look at the impressive glaciers and their striking formations. Back on board, cruise toward Spegazzini Glacier, which can reach heights of 426 feet (130 m). This glacier is often less crowded than others, offering a more intimate experience to take in its grandeur. After admiring the vibrant blues and whites of the ice contrasting with the surrounding mountains, sit down for lunch.
Day 6: Cruise to Perito Moreno Glacier, Disembark, Transfer to El Calafate
Enjoy your final breakfast on board before disembarking for a hike in the Andean-Patagonian forest. As you ascend through the lush greenery of the forest, you'll reach higher viewpoints offering a look at the Mayo and Negro glaciers. Back on board, cruise through the Canal de los Témpanos toward Perito Moreno Glacier. Watch as the ship glides through the tranquil waters, surrounded by towering ice walls, dramatic cliffs, and lush vegetation as you eat your lunch. When you arrive, you'll disembark for a walk along the glacier's northern footpaths.
The well-maintained trails meander through untouched forests and vibrant wildflower fields, gradually leading you to panoramic viewpoints where the massive glacier comes into view. As you walk, listen for the sound of calving ice in the distance. This is one of the only glaciers in the world that's advancing rather than retreating, so ice is constantly breaking off and reforming. After admiring one of Patagonia's most iconic natural wonders, return to the ship and cruise to Paraje Punta Banderas, where you can disembark around 4:00 pm and transfer to your hotel in El Calafate.
Day 7: Enjoy a Free Day in El Calafate
Today is free for you to spend as you wish, so if you want to learn more about the glaciers you've seen, consider visiting the Glaciarium Patagonian Ice Museum. As you explore the displays, you'll learn about the formation, movement, and significance of the glaciers in Patagonia and their crucial role in the Earth's climate system. The museum also offers panoramic views of the Southern Patagonian Ice Field, allowing you to appreciate the breathtaking beauty of the glaciers from a distance. Be sure to visit the ice bar, where you can cuddle up to your partner and enjoy drinks served in glasses made of ice.
Those who want a more active adventure can visit the Reserva Laguna Nimez, a nature reserve encompassing a series of wetlands and lagoons. As you stroll along the well-maintained trails, you'll be greeted by the sight of various bird species, including flamingoes, swans, and ducks, set against the backdrop of shimmering waters and the towering Andes mountains. Stop to read the informative signage for insight into the local flora and fauna. Then, wait until sunset to watch the shifting colors in the sky reflected in the calm waters.
Day 8: Fly to Ushuaia, Afternoon Tea on the Beagle Channel
Discover more of Argentine Patagonia today as you transfer to the airport for a 1.5-hour flight to Ushuaia, often dubbed the "End of the World" as it's the southernmost city in the world. Meet your driver outside the airport and transfer to your hotel to check in and enjoy some free time to relax. Just before sunset, you'll set off on an afternoon tea cruise along the Beagle Channel.
While sipping on fine teas and indulging in sweet and savory Patagonian delights, you can take in panoramic views of glistening glaciers, lush forests, and wildlife, including sea lions and various seabirds. Seated next to your loved one, watch as the sun begins its descent, transforming the sky into a canvas of deep oranges and soft pinks reflecting off the tranquil waters, adding to the romantic atmosphere. After two hours on the water, return to the mainland and transfer to your hotel.
Day 9: Hiking & Kayaking in Tierra del Fuego National Park
Lace up your hiking boots and get ready for an active adventure within Tierra del Fuego National Park, known for its dense forests, snowcapped mountains, and rugged coastlines along the Beagle Channel. Start with a five-mile (8 km) hike along the Senda Costera (Coastal Path). This medium-difficulty trail takes you through forests of lenga and ñire trees and along pebbled beaches. Along the way, you may spot sea birds, foxes, and even beavers. Take a break at Lago Acigami for lunch in a tent to warm up before donning your rubber boots, over pants, and life jackets for a canoe ride.
Hop in your inflatable canoe and paddle across the lake surrounded by snowy mountains and untouched forests. Continue down the gently flowing Lapataia and Ovando rivers to Lapataia Bay, where you can observe the flora and fauna of parts of the park that are inaccessible by foot. You may spot several species of birds, such as Andean condors and Magellanic woodpeckers, as well as water birds like oystercatchers, kelp geese, and cormorants. After an hour of paddling, you'll reach a viewpoint enjoyed by the Yámana people several centuries ago, where you can then transfer back to your hotel.
Day 10: Hike the Garibaldi Pass
Stretch your legs for another active adventure this morning as you transfer one hour to the southern Andes range. Leave the vehicle behind near the Garibaldi Pass and start the five-mile (8 km) hike to reach the top of this mountain chain. The ascent can be challenging due to the steep and rocky terrain, so take your time and ask your guide for breaks when you need them.
Start by walking through the dense forest for 1,900 feet (600 m), then watch as the trees disappear and Escondido and Fagnano lakes come into view. At the top, enjoy views of the shimmering lakes surrounded by snowcapped peaks before descending the northern slope of the mountain. Cross the forest of lenga and ñire trees, keeping an eye out for beavers and their dams. When you reach the bottom, your driver will be waiting to take you back to Ushuaia for your final night at the end of the world.
Day 11: Fly to Buenos Aires, Explore the Capital at Leisure
Now that you've explored Argentine Patagonia, it's time to return to Buenos Aires on a 3.5-hour flight. When you arrive, meet your driver outside the airport and transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to relax or go sightseeing on your own. A good place to start is Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes to peruse the extensive collection featuring works by renowned Argentine artists, as well as European masters such as Rembrandt, Van Gogh, and Goya. After admiring the art, shop for souvenirs from local artisans in Plaza Francia right in front of the museum.
End the night with a date at Teatro Colón, an opulent theater where you can watch opera, ballet, and concerts throughout the year. The theater is known for its exceptional acoustics and intricate architecture, making it the perfect setting for a romantic evening. If there aren't any scheduled shows during your visit, opt for an intimate dinner at Cabaña Las Lilas instead. This elegant steakhouse offers unmatched views of the river, a sophisticated ambience, and top-quality Argentine beef that's sure to impress your loved one.
Day 12: Day Trip to Estancia El Ombú
Your penultimate day in Argentina takes you to Estancia El Ombú, a charming farm just 1.5 hours outside of the city in the town of San Antonio de Areco. The drive will take you through the Pampas region, characterized by rolling grasslands, open skies, and scattered wildflowers. Along the way, your guide will teach you about the gaúchos who reside here. Originating in the 18th century, these skilled horsemen and cattle herders played a crucial role in developing Argentina's agricultural economy. When you arrive in town, stroll the cobblestone streets to the main plaza lined with colonial architecture.
Day 13: Depart Buenos Aires
Although your exploration of Argentina is coming to an end today, you can discover a bit more of the capital on your own before your flight. If you still need to pick up souvenirs, consider heading to the Mercado de San Telmo. Wander the bustling aisles lined with an array of vendors selling everything from fresh produce and gourmet cheeses to handcrafted goods and antiques. The market is particularly lively on Sundays when the surrounding streets come alive with tango dancers, musicians, and artisans showcasing their crafts. When it's time, transfer to the airport for your flight home. Safe travels!
