Another beautifully designed hotel, modern, clean and stunning location.
Overview
Located between two of Iceland's most popular natural attractions, Skaftafell Nature Reserve and Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, Fosshotel Glacier Lagoon is ideal for nature lovers and hiking enthusiasts. While there are no shops or restaurants in the immediate vicinity, the hotel does put you at just a 20-minute drive from both the geometric basalt formations of Skaftafell Waterfall and the icy blue waters of Jökulsárlón. Diamond Beach, which takes its name from pieces of glacier shining against volcanic black sand, is also a 20-minute drive.
The hotel's 125 rooms are modern and stylish, using dark wood and soft lighting to create a cozy atmosphere. Some Doubles have ocean views, while others look out over the surrounding hilly landscape. The Executive Suite includes a living room and two sofa beds, ideal for groups or families. The Deluxe Family Room also offers an extra sofa bed, as well as a view of the mountain and nearby waterfall. Suites include bathtubs, and all rooms have refrigerators but no minibars. Whatever room you choose, be sure to request a northern lights wake-up call to make sure you catch the aurora borealis in the winter.
The on-site restaurant is a major plus, as there aren't many good dining options in the surrounding area. Enjoy a tasty meal of Nordic cuisine while soaking in the view either from inside or on the terrace. Reserve a spot in the dry sauna or hot tub to decompress after a day of adventures. There's also a waterfall on the premises, ideal for kids or anyone wanting immediate access to Iceland's nature.
