Pros

• It's a nice option to have apartments right in the city, especially if you want to prepare your own meals or enjoy a little more space. 
• The location is ideal for staying in Sant Antoni, right on a popular square next to the port and harbor. 
• This historic hotel opened in 1933—the very first hotel in Ibiza—and was renovated in 2021, so you get both history and stylish, modern design and comforts. 
• All the apartments have kitchens and seating areas, and those on the second floor have two bedrooms with one bed in the loft area. 
• The units are all very stylish with natural colors and textures, so you definitely feel like you're in Ibiza. 
• There are two restaurants on the ground floor of the hotel, where the original business was, serving unique fusion food and international menus. 

Cons

• As an apartment hotel, there aren't any common spaces or amenities other than the two restaurants.

I wasn't very impressed with the hotel selection in Sant Antoni de Portmany, but this property feels like a hidden gem. It has such a cool history as the very first hotel ever in Ibiza, but everything about the property is very contemporary and trendy. I loved the design aesthetic, as it was stylish but still high-quality, plus the energy was perfect, as the hotel's restaurants are quite popular in the evenings. 

Authenticity

Josep Roselló established the original Hotel Portmany in 1933. He had a vision for Ibiza and is known locally as the forefather of tourism on the island. That means you'll stay in the very first hotel in Ibiza, though its new hoteliers renovated it in 2021.  

Location

If staying in Sant Antoni de Portmany, this is possibly the city's best location, as you'll be on a pedestrian square bordering the port. The walkway that takes you along the coast is just at the end of the main street, about five minutes away, and eventually leads to the swimming spot at Caló el Moro. To explore the area a bit, the cliffs at Punta Galera and the idyllic beach of Cala Saladeta are both within a 20-minute drive.

Rooms & Bathrooms

Hotel Portmany offers two types of apartments across two floors of its building, all with natural tones and textures, like woven lampshades, leafy plants, and egg-shaped swinging chairs. The lower floor has studio apartments, with some offering an open plan with dining areas near the bed. The top-floor units have an upper loft area and two beds, so they work well for groups or families with older children and feel more like apartments with separate sleeping and dining areas. All have modern and stylish kitchens and bathrooms.

Other Highlights

As an apartment hotel, there aren't too many amenities. However, you'll find two restaurants on the ground floor, La Cantina Portmany and La Cantina Canalla. One offers an international menu with a little bit of everything, from local cuisine to Italian, Asian, and even Tex-Mex. The other is a Peruvian and Japanese fusion eatery.
