Húsavík Cape Hotel's plain, sky blue building holds a surprising wealth of the town's history; not only is the small guesthouse-style hotel owned by a family who's lived in the area for over 400 years, but it's also home to the Explorer's House, a museum dedicated to everything from early Arctic exploration to modern space travel. It hosts the town's annual Explorers Festival, and you'll find some nods to the theme of exploration throughout the interiors in the form of art and photographs. The hotel's latest addition is inspired by the town's more recent fame—an adjoining Eurovision exhibition that extends into a fun bar with themed cocktails and a display of costumes from the popular Netflix film. 

Location

Located just north of Húsavík's harbour, the hotel's slightly elevated position gives it prime views over Skjálfandi Bay. The town center is just a 3-minute stroll away, and local attractions like the Húsavík Whale Museum and Geosea Geothermal Sea Baths are within a 10-minute walk. The town makes a perfect base for exploring the Diamond Circle, with highlights like Lake Mývatn, Dettifoss waterfall, and the glacial Ásbyrgi canyon reachable in under an hour's drive. The North Island capital of Akureyri and its international airport are an hour south by car, and there's plentiful free parking at the hotel.

The hotel's 19 rooms are basic but comfortable, with simple, somewhat dated decor, large windows, and private bathrooms (most with bath/shower combos). All include TVs, free WiFi, and views of the town or the bay. Options include Double, Triple, and Family units (the latter sleeping up to six guests), and there's a self-catering apartment across the street for travelers planning longer stays. There's no elevator access to the upper floor, so guests with limited mobility should book one of the two ground-floor rooms with showers.

During the summer season (May through October), room rates include a simple but hearty buffet breakfast, with Icelandic staples like cold meats and cheeses, boiled eggs, juices, and coffee. The popular Eurovision-themed JaJaDingDong bar is open during the summer, serving signature cocktails and Neopolitan-style pizza in a cozy interior space and on the outdoor terrace. The adjoining gallery features a kitschy collection of Eurovision memorabilia plus props and costumes from the Netflix movie "Eurovision: The Story of Fire Saga."
